11. Why do they put Braille on the drive-through bank machines?
12. If man evolved from monkeys and apes, why do we still have monkeys and apes?

14. What was the best thing before sliced bread?
15. If one synchronized swimmer drowns, do the rest drown too?
16. Why is there an expiration date on sour cream?
17. If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

25. If a tree falls in a forest and no one is there to hear it, does it still make a sound?

Had to tackle this one in my Public Speaking and Debate class. It comes down to the very technical definition of "sound".
The answer is no. Because, if you go by the definition... "The sensation stimulated in the organs of hearing by such vibrations in the air or other medium" then there was no sound, as no organs of hearing were stimulated.
How retarded eh?

Actually, sound waves would be audible, non audible sound waves are just waves. They might actually be some other type of wave, depending on where inteh electromagnetic spectrum they fall. They could be light waves, or radiated frequency waves, or other types of waves.
Also, sinc ethe definition of sound involves being perceived, if there is nothing in the forest to "hear" the sound, then true, it doesn't meet the definition of a sound. It can't be proven that it created a sound or did not. We all know that is most certainly did make a sound, but we can't prove that it did. However, that forest must be devoid of all hearing organisms, since animals can hear, and that might technically meet the definition of being perceived.
now, why did I write all that. Did anyone actually hear it?
Michael
