from the Chicago Sun-Times.....

Outtakes

"I couldn't find many uses for a Britney Spears record, other than throwing it really hard and slicing her head off"

No, actually, I don't think that would work.

I've thrown many CD's across my room, some very, very hard. The CD usually makes an impression on my plaster wall, but eventually shatters into many pieces, some of which end up in my foot in the morning.

Even if the CD were thrown with enough force and the right spinning motion to cut through the epidermal layer, and even perhaps through some muscle tissue, there is virtually no chance it would proceed through the vertebrae. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Maybe you could sharpen the edges first...

yeah, but he is going to use a record!!!!

king... too scientific... i just have this mental image of a japanese animation cartoon britney spears, a razor sharp record flying through the air with the light reflecting off the edge, and then.....

That is an excellent point. The platinum record would still probably not have sufficient mass or velocity to sever the head, but if poorly aimed, could very well leave her with a nasty concussion.

If you really want to get into it, this boils down to a question of pressure over a small surface area.

Provided that you sharpen the edges of the platinum record down to a fine edge (Platinum being a fairly soft metal compared to something like iron, it won't be -too- fine, but finer than gold or copper.) But yes, you could definately do some damage.

think of it this way: If you take a regular kitchen knife and exert 10 lbs over the surface of the blade (which is maybe 1/100th of a sq. in.) that's 1000psi on the edge. So throwing a sharpened platinum record with 20lbs of force would exert perhaps 2000psi at first contact. That'd be enough to at least go halfway through Britney's neck and possibly some bone.

oh hey - that brings forth new ideas...

I mean, since we're supposed to figure out creative uses for her records as albums, perhaps the best approach is to break the record into shards and just use them as stabbing weapons?

dang.... whats with everyone over analyzing this thing... it's supposed to be funny, like when the coyote is chasing the roadrunner and an anvil falls on his head in the middle of the desert. no one asks where the anvil comes from, or why the coyote is still alive... it's just funny...

im going to pout now

oh gawd - you don't see the cynical humor in all of that? I mean, first I talk about the actual possibility of doing then act, then I say "aww **** it, just break it up and stab 'er with the pieces.."

but anyways...

The anvil came from me. I droped it from a helicopter off-camera.
