Are you users like this?
Hello all, I got an email today back from a manager who'd like to address some issues about a new integrated system we're running. I work for a healthcare agency who up until recently (5 years ago) did everything via paper. We now have about 150 PC's not including servers to run our new EMR.
We just recently started adding laptops or "fielddevices" for our clinicians to use. These devices send our PC count to well over 200+ and like every other IT department we're well understaffed in fact there's just two of us that have to cover 3 offices and about 200+ computers, not including servers/printers and any other technology issue our company decides we should know how to fix.
I'm not sure about any of you out there, but I'm having the damnest time trying to prove to these poeple that computers will make thier jobs easier. The nurses,PT's and social workers insist on *****ing about every little drawback. This quote was directly from the email I got this morning.
"The computers are hot and clinicians have reported this daily. In the home they do not always have place to set them except on themselves."
Staff support. Staff report negative responses when they ask for help.
Just thought I'd vent here and see if you all have any similiar stories...

Sigh, welcome to the club. I currently oversee around 150 computers and there is just one of me. Then of course I get emails about how people can't print or this or that and they havent even tried logging off and on or rebooting the system.

I'm in a shop of 6 that supports over 7000 computers, mac, windows, linux. Plus the printers, scanners, copiers, and handhelds. Add to that students, and teachers that don't want to learn technology. I say if they are teaching our kids they need to learn how to set up their own damn printer...

My mind is just blown at how they can find every little niche to ***** and moan about. I'm going to have to go to a meeting with the directors and show them how "hot" the laptops get. Are you kidding me, what a waste of my time? It's an electronic device for christ sake yes it's going to get warm just deal with it...

Thier field clinicians, aparently in some of the homes they visit there is no "clean" place to set the devices and they say that they are hot when holding them. Like I'm some sort of magician, they expect me to be able to do something about this "heat problem"

These technologically challenged people are everywhere. I think some of my favourites are:
"The internet doesn't work". "Well are you plugged in or using WiFi". "How do I know that?". "Is there a cable attached?". "No." "So is your WiFi on?". "What's that?" expanation... "Oh, it works now.It wasn't on."
Then the people at schools or large networks:
"The page isn't printing. The screen pops up, and I push Ok.". "Well which printer are you sending it to?". "I only see one printer in my office, so that one.". "No, I mean which on does the print screen tell you its going to?". "I dunno... There's a lot. Where are all these ones?" "Just select your printer." dumbass...

You would be amazed at the amount of calls I get trying to figure out why the wireless doesnt work when the wireless switch on the side of the laptop was turned off. Or the other user that called me last night in a panic because she couldnt print, she had her printer paused......
