Building a digital camera from flatbed scanner hardware

not sure if this got posted, sorry if it did.... found it on slashdot.org today...

a very interesting re-use of technology....

might prove useful to those strapped for cash... and such a high res of image can be achive for a very low cost...

Uh huh. Not to mention the obvious fact, but the pictures it takes are terrible, and it is still strapped to a PC...Interesting idea though. But the money savings to me is not worth it. FWIW, I just bought a Panasonic PD-4090 from eBay for $170. This camera rocks!

But the thing is, you have to take in to account that it was built ~1998.
