Reverse Rant
I see a fair amount of rants by more senior or more computer literate members in the Off Topic Forum. I thought perhaps it may be of interest to share a little of what it may be like to be on the receiving end.
The attached is a return post from another thread that unintentially, got a little long winded on my part. Enjoy........

This board is one of the worst I have belonged to though, it is like the culture of the board to tell people to search, and flame them any chance you can get. I know a bunch of questions get asked over and over again...I say post nothing if you don't have anything positive to say. The person will get the hint.
As to the mx-3 --- drop a KL-ZE in it already
I'd consider myself a car geek, but I'm not even close to being a computer geek. The closest I got to personally working on my home PC was installing a few LAN cards for cable / phone internet and replacing the power supply the failed - that's it. No mobo, processor, memory, HDD or disk drives installed by this noob ever. I don't mind receiving constructive criticism since the key thing is constructive, which is helpfull and motivating. Trying to assume that I'll achieve a level of competance and awareness about the inner workings of PC's that is on par with a majority on this BB would be folly. Not that it wouldn't be nice, but that I'd rather use it than play or experiment with it. I believe that there's a certain minimum knowledge level necessary to be a happy and comfortable CarPC USER but not one that a majority of this BB feels the average noob should know. I'm still using the first home PC I ever purchased 5 years ago - Pentium 3, 1 Ghz. I've been quite happy with what I've been doing and wanted to do with it and found that this happiness level didn't require me to know the inner workings of whats inside the chasis or what it does.
I'd like to think I could approach my first CarPC project in the same manner, but finding it's not going to happen that way.
I'm quite familiar with the routine SEARCH directives since I'm a Mod on another BB. For most noobs I'll usually recommend a search but will almost always provide a number of links to get them pointed in the right direction. Now I usually get the same sort of thing here most of the time, but it's the links that are provided is what sometimes is disheartening. In most cases, they're links to threads that are 5, 10 and sometimes 15 pages long. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to spend that much time going through that many pages to find what I believe to be a fairly straight forward answer. Most questions I pose are clear and concise and usually require a very short answer. Nonetheless, I will still get the pre-programmed response in some cases.
If the majority of the computer geek membership could appreciate that there's a considerable amount of other members that don't share in their passion the same way they do and that are looking only for information to sort specific issues. Don't flame others if they don't share in the passion for this hobby like they do. It only serves to steer newer members away from being more interactive on this BB. I'm quite sure that there are elitest computer geek BB's out there that could serve those passions of theirs. My only motivation towards this BB and the CarPC world is that it seemed the prudent way to go for the needs/ wants that I have for my car - a newer and better ICE with the benefits of 5.1, DVD/CD-RW, AM/FM/TV, WIFI, GPS, almost limitless memory, and especially the potential to remove the need to keep a laptop on the passenger seat to monitor and manipulate my Megasquirt Engine management system via a serial cable. Like I said, it seemed to be the perfect solution to my needs, not to mention that I'm getting tired of the old ICE that I installed over 10 years ago.
Lets face it, CarPC's will be the norm in the near future for all production cars anyway, so why not get a little head start anyway - from a users perspective, of course.
OK, rant over .... LOL.

MX-3 - Drop in a KLZE
Oh ya, it's got the JDM Spec 2.5L (KLZE) installed, with a J-Spec LSD sitting in the garage waiting to be installed this winter. Along with a new Eaton M62 SuperCharger as well. Car has been lowered, with external mods, engine mods, suspension mods and interior mods to include all brand new Special Edition leather throughout. I've acquired parts from Japan, Australia, Holland, the US and all over Canada. My car passion definitely supercedes my CarPC passion which I believe may be the reverse for a good percentage of this membership. Therein lies the differences between myself and some of the membership here. Something I don't forsee changing in the very near future, and shouldn't necessarily have to, IMO.

And there was me thinking this was going to be a thread about someone reversing into the front of you and then accusing you of driving into the back of then.
Guess I'll leave this room for another then.

wanna see what's wrong with this place:
these posts were lifted from a thread yesterday, you will see the guy is now banned. he has been a repeat offender for many years and got away with it scott free. I have not posted on here for months as i got sick of it. It was a self imposed ban after I got banned for a day for having a go at this guy and someone who is now a mod for bashing newbies. But that is in the past now.
anyway..just so you can one of the worst cases of newbie bashing of late (+ his 1st post was almost as bad but not in that thread)
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/off-topic/83705-unpleasantries.html
oh and check out my sig ~(the purple bit).
yes a lot of people on here know a lot about computers and it is thier life. but the rest of us have other things to do and are installing carPC's as a hobby. We dont want to get this kind of abuse or see it being dished out for what is supposed to be an enjoyable hobby.

That's the first time I have seen something like that have a penalty go with it as in getting banned and its about time. There is another poster on that thread who is every bit as bad on a regular basis and the same thing should happen to that member.

I had no idea there was so much angst and resentment between senior members here. Not a healthy environment for anyone to play in, especially noobs. And I'm suprised that mods and admins appear to be restrained when dealing with some of the other senior members who routinely "cross the line". It must be self evident for the senior members to recognize the capability and knowledge level of some noobs questions by the way it's worded and phrased. At least I usually can myself on my other site (MX-3.com). From there it's usually quite easy to give an appropriate response that's geared to the level of knowledge and competance percieved. Approaching each question in this manner may yield better results, shorter and more informative threads and foster a healthier and happier environment that will invite more noobs to be more particpatory in the future.
Noobs can serve as a viable resource since their perspective, experience level and knowledge could be easily shared and understood by other noobs. If this is a BB strictly designed for the elitists than it may serve to make that disclaimer in the onset. Like scouse mentioned, I thought this was a BB for the enthusiast. Where there's a common bond or passion for their ride and the desire to intigrate a PC into that ride. Not a PC only BB, cause I'm sure there's lots of those around. Am I missing the mark here? Or am I in the wrong place to begin with? A CarPC BB, not a car BB and not a PC BB.
Anyway, I will endeavour to be as well researched as possible when posing future questions. I'll also know that, when/if I get flamed, that I'll have to consider the source, not lower myself to those levels, or reciprocate in kind, and to take what I need and leave the rest behind. I thank all those that were kind enough to post positive/informative responses so far. This has definitely been an eye opener for me. Like my sig says, "steep learning curve" here. Emphasis is on LEARNING, cheers,
John

yuck dude, i think it's that font colour but it is seriously screwing my eyes!...i had an idea and it worked...highlight your post to read it and invert it.
you see the problem is, I have tried to tell the site owners is there is a condition i notice in people and in myself that when people spend too long on a forum their tolerance to others changes dramitically and they forget that not everyone spends their lives on that forum. they start to get very aggressive to people and also they jsut get irritated when people dont do a proper search or ask a common question or not give people enough info to answer a question. What these people forget is the basis that this hobby is new and exciting and the idea of putting a pc in their car seems new and crazy and they havent been around to see every question asked a million times and they havent noticed all the stickies and what do people do when they are excited? they jump in with both feet. And what happens? they get flamed and belittled and made to feel bad.
Now what is needed on here is a tolerance to this and not abuse. this is a hobby. the new people bring fresh ideas...maybe not at first but they will. they are also the new customers of the shops involved in this hobby that without we would be pretty buggered. Not only due to lack cheap and RELIABLE sources of parts but people forget that little banner at the top is the store that pays for this forum. Without money that store cannot afford to pay the bandwidth for the forum and there would be no forum - or at very least a lot less smoother and featured one and hosting picas would be an issue and it would be slow and asking for donations to keep running or full of adverts etc etc etc yada yada yada.
I have been trying to come up with a phrase to describe this change in poeples behaviour for a week or so now. I was going to ask people for suggestions as I really do think it exists. People sitting in their rooms completely engrossed in forums and it taking over their lives and their minds and changing them.
People on here need to go take a break, mods included as quite frankly there is too little of them for a forum of this size and number of posts each day. they do it for free and for that we are all greatful, as we are to the owners, but sometimes i wonder if they are the ones most affected by this spending too long on the forum.
Andy

Yes, they are bored individual who got nothing better to do. To them this forum is no longer a souce of information, it just a play ground, hunting noobies down and making them feel crap. The worst thing, the mods supports it.
Oh by the way andy, you are a **** face
Welcome back, long time no see. I havent been around the forum much either, I think we all have one reason why
