Time for me to rant.
Okay, I have enought with this SOTB and a Mo ******.
I got at least 4 or 5 called a week from this company. It's not from a freaking live person, but a machine instead. I used to have an answering machine turn on, but shut it off lately cuz of that. Here is basically the message of the call.
Quote:
It's important for you to contact Ken Hughes at 888-249-1037. This is not a sales call. Again, it is important that you call Ken Hughes at 888-249-1037.
I google for the name and landed on rip off report site and sure enought it a parasite of the credit world.
I have no ******* idea where they get the number to call regarding to credit collection. Neither me nor my wife has any issue with credit.
However, our home phone number list under my name which happen to have the same last name as the previous owner's wife (or sister-in-law). I don't remember how many time I have to say **** to the caller that they got the wrong number/resident. They just said that I am lying about the person they call had sold the house because of the same last name. **** how stupid can they be (well if they smarter, they would probably work else where)? How many ******* John Smith living in the US and how coincident that a different Smith moving to the same address?
Okay, what can I do about it legally? My number is listed under both California and US FCC "No call list". Is there any thing I can do about to stop the freaking call? Disconnect the phone is a NO, NO as I don't 100% trust the cell service (although I been using cell for the past 10+ yrs) in case of emergency. My other option is disconnect the phone and using my in-law name for the new number.

Change your phone number? Put it in your wife's name?

call and ask kto be taken of the list. if they dont tell them youll contact the phone company and persue pressig charges against them for phone harrassment. thats if you want to keep the number. If you dont care, you can have the phone number changed. of you ***** loud enough theyll do it for free. good luck. Ive been there. somehow those *** bandits started calling my phone for someone else once. I did the same as above. they got beligerant, and instead of getting mad i just started being an ******* ******* with the persn until they hung up. I would ask them what there wearing. If they love cock. and all sorts of other very rude personal questions. I figured if they were wasting my minutes i might as well have fun with it. The key is to not get mad when your ******* with them. after you mess with them 2 or 3 times and they realize its not you there looking for, theyll quit calling usually.
The other thing I did is they were calling for some women a different time. It was my home number this time. Anyhow, When i was at best buy buying something and they put in my number and this ladies address and new number popped up. Anytime i get a call for her i just pass along the info and i never hear from the people after. Good luck and rememver dont get mad when your messing with them.

I recently changed my cell phone number (moved to a different town). I started to get collection calls as well.
I told them 3 times that this was a new number to me and that the person they were looking for no longer had the number. On the 4th time I got really mad on the phone with them (same freaking guy calling me), I told him that since I had asked 3 times already to be taken off of his list I had the right to turn him and his company in. That if I heard one more word from them looking for this person, or if I saw their number on my phone I would follow through.
Haven't heard from them sense.

Problem here is most/all of the time is the machine that called me with the message. I'll be glad if a live person call.
Changing to a new number won't help cuz the person they want to talk has the same lastname as mine. So sooner or later, they will find it. Changing to different number and name is possible but I don't want that route yet.
Talking about having fun with the caller. I did it serveral times and sure they stop calling for a longggggg time.
This is why I keep remind my wife. If they did say who they want to talk to or reason to call, don't call back. If they really need you, they call again (in case of relative.) The thing is most of the time, she is more causious than I am.

If they are a debt collector, the best thing to do is send them, via certified letter, a request for debt verification. That letter includes a "DO NOT BOTHER ME TILL YOU VERIFY THE DEBT" provision. Since you are sure it is not you, they won't be able to verify the debt. This is VERY IMPORTANT. Once they can not verify the debt, you can then take any calls they place to you, and ANY COLLECTION attempts by them, including entries on your credit report (Realize, that while it isn't you, they still have your information somehow, and they COULD technically place negative items on your credit report) as a violation of the Fair Debt Collection act. Each violation is an automatic $1000.00. ( I forgot the amount, but it is something like $1000.00)
Otherwise, there is nothing that will keep them from calling. They DO NOT have to stop calling because you told them to. It MUST be in writing.

NEVER CALL THESE NUMBERS BACK!
They're well known in the UK, they ring you, and ask you to press a button to confirm who you are, then when you do, you are accepting them putting YOU through to a premium rate line at anything upto £5/min
Ring your telephone operator/company and compain to them.
In UK we have 'telephone preference service' to regulate this now.

I get some a-hole jerry or terry from "the sattellite TV company" or so
they say, keeps calling - selling Dish network - I have had it for years
its a recording - most of the time I just hang up on them - but
a few times I waited for someone live, to tell them not to call back
- they try to hang up before I can finish saying it, some times I
wait for a real person and fart into the phone - or play porn into
the phone, one time I just went off, and went crazzy, and I
have had them go off on me - thats funny sh|t,
I love wrong numbers
but yea - telling them not to call does little good,

thats why you should say that you would like to talk to them in person about it, and if the accept, go to their place of business, and threaten their families lives if they call you again, lol

My favorite thing to do is to get their first and last names (if you can!) and get one of those $25 people finder packages. Find out where they live, last couple of addresses they have, spouses name, childrens name, home phone number. That has stopped 3 debt collectors, that were looking for my father, from calling me. I started to ring them around 3:00am at home! I love it...

EDIT: Wow, since the last time I have done this (years ago) the price has now upped to $49! Damn.
