Wanted to let y'all know about insurance and carputer
I've been wondering about this for a while now but never really bothered to call insurance to ask. Well last weekend I was rearended by a bus and since I had to talk to my agent, I asked her about carputer and whether it's covered by my policy automatically.
Well turns out everything mounted in dash is covered be it new radio, lcd and what have you. So if that was to be stolen, my insurance would cover it. the only thing I must have is receipts or some sort of records of what I have. Also photographs of what it used to look like etc.
I know it differs from state to state. My insurance policy is in a state of New Hampshire.

Nice to know. Did the Pc get damaged by the bus?
I figure I have auto and homeowners insurance so if one doesn't cover it the other will.

I always figured it was not worth the increase in your insurance premiums.

I think that would depend on the setup, really. For most of us, I'm sure you're right. The value of the equipment isn't going to affect the insurance rate.
Some people have more substantial setups, particularly with audio hardware. Those unique cases would probably require an additiona rider to the policy.

This is not true but unless you have a non standard auto policy the job and duty of the auto policy is to indemnify the owner of it. ( to get them back to the same financial state they were at before the loss )
its pretty safe to say if you have a major insurance company like GEICO allstate state farm etc that you will be covered for your losses as long as they are permanantly installed and have reciepts.
you can always read your autopolicy to see if theres a clause that limits this amount but its rare.

yeah, this may apply within reason, for like a grand or 2...but don't think this means you can go throw 10-15k into your car & it's automatically covered, if your system is substantial you will need add'l coverage... some systems can aproach & surpass the value of the car itself.... this wouldn't be covered...
I settle insurance claims with auto's almost every day, & you'd be surprised how petty some insurance companys can be...., even smaller amounts can be headaches to get paid for with aftermarket accessories in some cases...
