The polls that come up are just research tools that SD uses to make their product.
The amount of money they are making, especially now that they have partnered up with Intel, they should use their own site. After all they always have been saying SD if seperate from the forums.
So then use your own site.

That's because they don't believe in capitalism. They believe teh 'net should be free and nobody should make money off of its use.
Hippies of the 21st century, they are.
DAMN HIPPIES!

Maybe. The site has turned from: "Be a hobbiest, conquer some engineering problems, decide which software you want." Into: "Buy this hardware, with these bezels, and use this software." Nothing wrong with making money I suppose. It just seems like the whole mentality of the site has change swiftly over that last month or two.
I'm just afraid newcomers will be turned off by the new commercial nature of the site. It looks like we are trying to sell something instead of help (which perhaps we are trying to do).

strange - I haven't see that mentality very much at all in the forums.
IMHO, to not jump on an opportunity to make a living out of something respectible would be foolish. just about everyone on here would do the same. And just about everyone on here has probably thought about how they could make money with CarPCs.
The only way I could see the forum being over run by it would be if the users let it happen (including letting it bother them...)
One of the reasons you're probably seeing more activity now than previously is that there are a lot of events going on this time of year that are very important to this industry.
SEMA is just this next week, the Intel conference, then CES in January, all of the audio orginizations are holding their finals events, and with Christmas around the corner....all I see is it's a group of people being smart about getting the word out about the product they are trying to sell.

Who is blaming them for partnering up with Intel??
Like Llama said, when a noob visits this site for the first time all this see is SD. Its right in their face, they are more likely to spend huge amount of money on something that still has bugs (still beta). And SD might not even be the best option for their needs. Its buy our hardware, our software and that is all.
If SD really wants to be sucessful they should stay with their own site, just have a link on this site to them. And if I was going to buy SD I wouldn't want to see a forum showing problems it has. Why would they want to do that? If I'm paying money for it, it should work out of the box.

This statement could not be more true!
I think its funny that in the thread about it being worth the money or not, everyone supporting it is has very few posts on the site. Wonder how many of them built thier own carPC's and how many bought from the store and bundled SD with thier purchase not knowing there were other options that were roughly $200 less then the price of SD.
But I see SD as I see lots of things: I'll wait for someone to crack it and DL it from the torrents.

This place started as a hobby site to play mp3's in your car.
Mp3car owns this site, correct?
1. I think they can do anything they want. (even thought they delete posts about my business.)
2. More power to them for trying to go "commercial".
It's their business venture/attempt. I see nothing wrong with that.
