Hmm Gadgetman... Good thing you dont work in MY dealer! Anyways, I think the one who is mistaken is YOU...
Let me explain it to you (if anything, this way you wont sound foolish in front of a customer):
- In 2002 (around the middle of the year) the BMW-designed range rover (known as "New Range Rover" or L322 or MKIII) was launched. It featured a BMW 4.4 litre engine, and a BMW entertainment system, as well as a BUNCH of other stuff from BMWs - PDC, etc, etc, etc. This car has the I-Bus system (this is a car bus that controls many aspects of that and can be interfaced to. Among other things the CD-player/audio stuff can be controlled through it, etc... basically it is the communication bus used in all BMWs to that date).
- In 2005, after being bought by Ford, LR replaced the entertainment systems with ones like was used in some Jags - the system is made by Denso, which makes nav/audio systems for many cars, just FYI. The engine is still a BMW 4.4 liter, but the audio/infotainment system is based on the MOST bus. It is a fiber-optic bus used in many newer vehicles.
- In 2006, Ford (again trying to reduce cost, by stopping getting stuff from BMW) introduced the Jaguar-powered Range Rovers, using the 4.4 with 300hp and the 4.2 S/C with 400hp (used in the XJR). The entertainment system is identical to the 2005s.
So basically, I dont mean to be a dick, but get your facts straight... And drop the attitude "I know I work at a LR dealer"... well, as usual the LR-employees (direct/indirect) have a cocky attitude that makes solving problems (and our cars have their fair share) that much more difficult...
If you have any more doubts, I suggest you read on
www.rangerovers.net (which probably has a lot more info on these cars than any official literature you might have from LR)... I know, I'm a moderator for the Range Rover L322 forum on that site.... I have read about just about everything that fails or goes on in these cars.... Of course, I could learn new stuff, but you barrated (sp?) in here with wrong info... get your facts straight mate!
no offense, no hard feelings....
PS: if all of the above doesnt convince you, research online, there is a good reason that many companies sell audio-input, video-input adapters, ipod-adapters, etc for the 2003-2004 models, but they explicitly say it wont work for 2005/2006/2007 (exactly because the Infotainment communication bus is different)...
