Removing boot record from CF

I have a 4 gig CF that I'm using to boot off of. Awhile back in desperation as I tried to figure out how to get it to boot, I accidently installed a boot manager called Smart Boot Manager. This sits for 30 seconds, waiting for me to hit the enter button to select the boot device (I don't want to have to do that) I can't get it to uninstall, and I've tried repeatedly to delete the MBR using tools such as Smart FDisk. It's still there. I want it gone. Does anybody have any suggestions?

try booting into the recovery console of a winxp cd and executing fixmbr. that usually fixes the MBR to the default winXP MBR. Pretty easy...
