512MB or 256MB (need to cut down hibernation load time)

Hi,

CarPC,
VIA EPIA MI12000, 40GB Notebook HDD, External SB Live USB, 7" Touch Screen. Memory 512MB. Windows XP SP1 with no update, Front-End Road Runner, Media Player Classic, Winamp 2.9, NJWin (for Chinese Character), Click-N-Type on screen keyboard, Garmin nRoute GPS.

That is pretty much my config. It takes about 30+ odd sec to boot and if I hibernate it may take about 25 sec to boot from hibernation. After the screen memory of 64MB I would have a balance of 448MB to reload when I wake up from hibernation. So if I were to drop down to 256MB it would take very much less time to read 256MB.

My question is 256MB enough for CarPC applicaiton, RoadRunner + Winamp + GPS running. I would like to test but I only have the 512MB and need to purchase a 256MB I wish to test.

You want to cut down the hibernation load time, cut down on the memory.
Just remember that by doing so, you'll also be cutting back on Windoze performance.

WOW ,

R you using TinyXP or nlite. I am not that good enuf to know what to take out using nlite. Tinyxp some report that bluetooth maybe a problem which I want to use later.

Would be great if you could let me know what you remove if using nlite I would be most interest to try.

I never said it wouldn't run. I said that Windoze performance improves with more memory.

I am using a 180MB XP SP1 image that i believe was made with nlite. I found the iso on the net and it worked really well, so i never bothered making my own.

My system really is slow though. I am not trying to make out 128MB is ideal, just possible. Personally i think 256MB is the sweet spot if your chasing fast hibernate times.

I picked up the basis of my new system the other day, a p4M 1.8ghz laptop. I am planning on running 256MB ram in it.

Do you still have the link for the XP SP1 link, I have my own original XP SP1 key but I am not too sure what to take off using Nlite.

Yup I figure 256 is the sweet spot. Do you run any FM Radio, if so what kind of device are you using.
