TinyXP installation on a Laptop

Hi all,

I got a FujitsuSiemens Lifebook with 256 MB Ram, unfortunately
NO CD ROM and no way to boot from USB. I wanted to install a
TinyXP on this machine. Oh yes, there is an external Floppy.
DOS can be booted from this Floppy. The floppy drive has a special
connector, the floppy is not connected via the USB.

My question:

If I install two partions on the HD and copy via an USB stick the
TinyXP into the second partition - how can I install the TinyXP on
the first partition? There is no setup.exe that starts from DOS, or

has anyone a clue for me please?

How about connecting the harddrive to another computer and install Tiny-XP from there? Theres probably going to be a hole lot of drivers from the "install-computer" that you won't need, but it will solve your problem.

Give it up. It's just going to be a pain in the butt if at all possible! You can't install anything now-a-days without a cd-rom drive...

Couldn't you just boot into DOS and load USB drivers? Do you have an external optical drive with USB interface?

Stranded's method would work as well. I've never used TinyXP before, but if it has the capability to boot into safe mode, then remove all the device controller drivers from the computer you installed it on before booting into the operating system.

I've got a similar issue, got a PC without Floppy or CD/DVD drive and NO way to get those (proprietary POS).

You might wanna try creating a lighter version of windows and then installing it from a USB drive to the HD. (nLite - Deployment Tool for the bootable Unattended Windows installation)
Or find out how to install os from usb flash stick (Installing Windows XP from USB)
or
Trying to do a network bootdisk (Bart's Network Boot Disk)

I know the install os from usb works because I just did it recently.
There are more help pages out there.. just gotta do what i'm doing right now.. read and apply if possible.

I did it after much pains using a win98 bootdisk copied onto the hard drive, along with the i386 folder from winxp - then install. Much more complicated than this though and took a while

- oh and no floppy drive either.

With a floppy drive it's easy surely? you just copy your i386 folder onto the harddrive - load up a win boot disk. run "smartdrv.exe" (put it on the floppy or harddrive), then run winnt.exe in your i386 folder and you're done.

TinyXp version don't have winnt.exe because manual installation is removed...I understand wkm1 problem because it's also my problem with the same fujitsu subnotebook(No cdrom no Floppy)
We can easily install normal copy of WinXP,simply put into HD the whole contents of original XP CD or put ISO image on HD and the mount it through Demon tool...But for this subnotebook we need a tinyXP version that work with few RAM...Unfortunately in all TinyXp version manual installation(so setup.exe,winnt.exe etc etc)are removed,and we can't install it!!!

Hope someone can help me and wkm1,in how to add manual installation to TinyXp Version.

PS.I try also to make my own Tinyxp with nLite but the result is a version not fast then the original tinyXP by eXPerience.

Um, for anyone with just a floppy... there is the "Windows XP Professional Utility: Setup Disks for Floppy Boot Install" which requires 6 floppies.

Hi, anyone of you used NOVAC aspi usb drivers before ? Almost like Machinist said...
This driver solved my problem on a Toshiba Portege, without Floppy and without CDROM as well. I took out my HDD and put it into my other laptop just to install this dos drivers on it and DOS of course, but after that, my Portege was able to see the USB DVD-RW liteon without any problems, and i was able to install XP. Since some of you already have a floppy drive, should be much easier for you...
