Got a question!!!!

Will it support an External App/GPS App so (as you tested before) I can make/use a windows app such as destinator/ app in MapPoint control?

That's the plan. In the best case, it will run inside an embedded window, and in the worst case, it will just launch the GPS app in its own window.

Cool, It would be great to be able to, in a transition period be able to utilise some of the little custom apps I've written on the new car pc, and make sure the missus still understands how to use the system

Also what do you think about having an http interface (or some kind of socket interface) for controlling the software from shell scripts and the like that I can fire off from other parts of the system?

EDIT: also just like to say I'm not a fan of X, so FB support would sell it to me!!!!!

Thanks

Got it all compiled and running now. One correction to the INSTALL file, it says it s ok to use paths that contain ~ in the headunitrc.

These dont work, they are not expanded (because the shell does that).

So

~daren/mp3car/headunit ***isnt*** valid, but:
/home/daren/mp3car/headunit ***IS*** valid

Hope this helps a little

mobileh1,

I'm glad to hear you got it running! Thanks for pointing out the "~" issue, i'll modify the INSTALL file. There are plenty of bugs to fix right now. Some important ones:
* when one file stops playing, the next one doesn't start
* no fast forward, rewind
* double clicking on a file in the playlist doesn't play it
* DVD playback screen doesn't register mouse clicks
* Some files cause the database initialization to hang (probably have to check for bad characters in filename or something)
If you think you can help me fix these bugs, let me know and I'll give you write permission to the CVS tree.

stevieg, I'll work on getting framebuffer working as soon as I get some free time. But I agree with you, it is a much better alternative to running a full blown X server.

Just to verify that the skinning code works correctly, I tried out more mods' Alpine skin. I have to fix the font code so that they are loaded properly, but here is a screenshot:

Wow, good stuff. If this really gets off the ground I might even switch to a linux distro as well.

Sweet deal man, I was going to test it out with College Linux on my other partition, but none of the mirrors have your file on them yet. Can't wait.
Got the CVS , I'll fiddle with it later and let you know.

yunusyu, i haven't put much thought into it, but for now, it's called "headunit". If anyone has any better ideas, let me know...

pudge, i'm very interested to know if it compiles on your distro. i think as long as you have the latest qt, xine-lib and sqlite libraries, it should work. make sure you read the INSTALL file.

I'm installing QT as I speak, and SQLite and xine are next. I'll let you know.

edit:: QT takes a longggg time to make. Also, I saw your avatar and didn't get , and I just noticed you have an RX-7 lol.

1.3 liters of rotary power! (and one apex seal that's seen one too many detonations )

Yeah Qt is big. Did you make sure to include all the configure flags listed in the INSTALL file? The important ones are -plugin-sql-lite and -pthread. Also for xine-lib make sure you --enable-sdl. Good luck!
