Actually, I put a snapshot of the CVS tree up for download now so you can get the source without using CVS. And yes, it will be available for windows soon (I should have some time this week to port it over).

Thank god! Just think what MC could have been if it had been OSS!

Thanks NoPistonPC!
Thankyou NoPistonPC. I really want to use linux as the OS for my carputer but I just have not been able to find a frontend that I like for my system. I literally was days from wiping out my epiam gentoo installation to start tinkering with some of the windows software out there.
I've downloaded headunit from the sourceforge CVS server compiled it cleanly and have run it using the Alpine, and Brushed Metal MediaCar skins (the skin package listed on sourceforge is not yet available). I had to rename some of the skin files as the case of the file names was different than what your code was looking for. Also it appears that many of the buttons are mapped to different functions in your code (not a complaint, just an observation).
I'm looking forward to future updates/improvements to the linux code.

momanz,
That's great to hear that you go it working. Yeah, I know about the skin problem. I should have all the little glitches fixed by the next release. It looks like coyote was using a different part of the UI item definition as a key. I'm using the B01, B02, etc.. and i think he was using the actual name (EXIT, PLAY, etc..)
Also, let me know if you run into any threading issues (like if the programs just hangs when you start playing a video or mp3).

Will the versions have the ablility to link apps to buttons on the menu page?
This is the one thing I think most people wanted on Media car.

Maybe I should start posting my skins over here.
I'm starting to think media car is dead.
I just hope you keep browsing instead of db.
edit: Doh, I just read the rest of the thread. DB

I may want to try it out. If I can do GPS (Routis) on Linux, I am sold. Yeah I know I can run Windows apps on linux by using wine, but I never use it.
One of my HD has Redhat (don't remember if it is a 8 or 9). NoPicton, what else do I have to download to this box so I can view the code/compile/run?

You know, if you are planning to go the long haul with this thing, it wouldn't take much work at all to create your own mini-linux distro dedicated to your new "headunit" software. Sort of an install-and-go for people who have mini-itx or similar systems.
I think that would be nice to see. Plus if you used FB in the stead of using X.... maybe based off of debian?

When I first saw this thread I thought that It would be like MediaCar only better because its open source, but if your going to make the audio player like frodo then you're making something very different from MediaCar and much like frodo player and media engine. The audio browser and video browser (at least to me) is what makes MediaCar better than the others. If you're going to use something like frodo's audio player with db search and the tiny keyboard (no way I could use while driving) then my Alpine skin will not work at all with your program.
Please tell me that you will still have the audio and video browser.

I am going with more mods on the audio/video player searchable stuff. I refer directory base like winamp, media car. I don't really like to type anything while driving. Remote control to skip a song is much usable for car environment.

And then there wouldn't be issues with the SQlite plugin for QT. Oh wait, that was just me
