Would you mind to download this tool: http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/DebugView.html
let it run before you start the test-app and send me the logfile afterwards?

Upon the logfile I see that the device was found, so it's supposed to be working.
What's the test-app doing?
For testing purposes it's better to kill the PowerMate UserInterface. Depending on the settings there, it might happen that MWI isn't getting the inputs.

Ok, so I tried killing the powermate App, no change
the test program should interact with the powermate right? I should be able to change the brightness and stuff?

Yap. Tick the Pulse checkbox for a quick test.

Ok, so I tried the test app again, i've tried starting it with the powermate program enabled, disabled. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the powermate while the test app is running. It just appears to do nothing at all

Strange. Are you running the test-app from the same location as MWI?

OK, here's a version that's a bit more gossipy.
Try that and send me the log once again please.

Looks good so far. Can you do a bit more like pressing the knob and turning it?

thats it, if I move the knob or press the knob in either the test or the main program I get no feedback. If I change the pulse and brightness it shows the program outputting the commands to the powermate, but no response from the powermate
