not sure how I ever missed this post, but i found the app on zorros site and gave it a try, did some searching on how to get it to work and now im here.
This app is awesome!
I am having some problems getting it to work with my powermate though.
mouse works fine so im testing it with that.
Ive read through this whole thread and im having the same problem as jcdillin was having. Im not sure if he ever got it resolved, but i sure would like to use this with my powermate in my car.
Other than that, i have one more question, how do you type uppercase letters?
I dont see anything being used for the top left corner of the app, maybe this can be the uppercase/lowercase toggle?

There is no solution for the PowerMate as long as the device doesn't appear as a Human Interface Device (and there's also not much I can do).
To have uppercase characters as well, you can edit the configuration for "Letters" and either append the uppercase letters or do some kind of "Camel Casing" (ie. aAbBcCdDeEfF....)

ok cool, ill just forgett about the powermate thing then, cuz if its a hid device it nolonger works with the powermate drivers.
Is there anyway you can make it so the commands can be customized?
like have a user set key to hold down to activate MWI instead of middle mouse click. I changed the action on the powermate, Rotate Right=Scroll Down etc and im able to use it to scroll thrugh the letters but i cant assign the middle mouse click as an action.
If the commands were custom then MWI could work with any device that sends keycommands like a game pad.
But in anycase, very cool app

How it comes that you remind me on Sally from "Harry & Sally"?
I can't do any keystrokes here because the app itself has no focus. I could do an system wide hook but that would interfere with all other applications.

Hey Zorro great app I was wondering about getting this working with girder. this I what I'm trying to do hit a button on my remote and mousewheel comes up as if I clicked on the scroller then I can toggle back and forth with left and right button on my remote and hit another button to hit enter .This would be very useful for putting in street names and such in iguidance .

Well, theoreticaly spoken, it's supposed to work with Grider either (looking at this naughty little diagram: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...&postcount=15).
The Grider would take place of the "Other Hardware" shown in the picture.
The only thing you have to manage is to send the corresponding Windows messages with Grider to MWI. As far as I know, Grider has such capabilities (but I'm not quite sure since I don't have it).
If you do this, don't forget to setup MWI with UseMouseHook set to false.
You might give it a try?

i have no idea what you mean about harry and sally?
but the keystroke thing im talking about is the same thing you allready have setup, just differnt buttons. Like, instead of hold down the middle mouse button for MWI to activate, say hold down a user defined key?

Sally never ordered what's on the menu... she always used to rearrange the menu.
Well, Sally, a keyboard hook works only on "real" keystrokes not on messages sent by other applications.

LOL, thats super funny. I actually DO rearrange stuff on the menu when i go out to eat. What can i say, im super picky. You're really starting to get to know me zorro
as for the keyboard stuff, how is everyone else using the app if it only works with a real keyboard? And if you have a real keyboard in your hand whats the point?

Gotcha!
What you wanted is to send keystrokes from your PowerMate to activate MWI but a keyboard hook will work on real keypress signals because this is the order:
Keyboard -> Driver -> (Hook) -> Windows Messeage -> App
As you can't generate a real keypress signal with PowerMate, this won't work. And yes, if you need a real keyboard for doing this, then there's no point of using MWI.
Maybe that's the reason I named it MouseWheelInput
Ok now Sally, be a good girl and eat what's on the table

lol,
ok, so im gonna just forget about the powermate, i keep trying to find a justification to actually buying the damn thing as i cant for the life of me find any reason to use it for anything as it so limited. Freaking glowing hockey puck is all it seems good for.

Well, with the latest PowerMate driver it's supposed to act as a HIDevice. In this mode it's completely supported by MWI (you don't need any keystrokes whatever).
For some reason the driver sometimes won't appear under HID (see posts above) and therefore MWI can't access it.
Maybe a support request at Griffin clears some things up.

Sneaky Peeky ;)
A long time ago I've made an application called AppControl.NET, which never really has seen daylight (nevertheless it has 1 fan ).
This app was invented to control other applications by using either messages, keystrokes or Windows (to start or stop apps).
Now I've decided to combine MWI and AppControl. What I've got is an application that makes it easy to control your CarPC with only one PowerMate / WheelMouse while driving (see screenshot).
If you wanna give it a try, let me know. It's not ready for download yet.
