TYVM! For testing I have been grabbing data for the state of Rhode Island:
Lat: 42 deg 2 min 0 sec North
Lon: 72 deg 0 min 0 sec West
Miles East: 45 miles
Miles South: 55 miles
Range: 1250 meters
Speed Factor: 4 (This really depends on your resolution AND net connection)
Resolution: 5
Next updates in the works include a progress bar, the ability to restart with new values without closing the app, and Greater Circle Algorithm implementation, with XML file reading for reading in trips in addition to grids.

Hmm, it appears that last update broke something! It's not going south now, so I'll figure that out and post an update.
Nate
Edit - Actally, what is happening is instead of ending like it used to after completing the grid, it starts over again. This may actually be useful for some folks, so I'll leave it until I update it with the newest features.

It would be very nice from you if you publish the source code. This way anyone could learn how the app works and improve it.

I intend to do this, but I need to make some modifications to it before for legal reasons (nothing major, just reused a small amount of proprietary code and I'd need to rewrite it to publish).
Afterwards, I'll put it under CVS at sourceforge.

Sorry about that! I had been installing Gallery on my homepage, but since that wasn't working (the auto-resizing of images was busted), I blew away the entire domain's site and installed coppermine gallery instead. Doing that deleted my downloads folder too... Should be good to go now! Thanks for the headsup.

Damn! I go on vacation, and come back to see my domain has been deleted! Not sure if it was my hosting company or some hack, but ALL my crap is gone... whimper. I'll see if I can get this restored asap.
Nate
Edit: It was the damn hosting company! I asked them to delete one small thing (a voided listing in fantastico) and they blew away my whole site, images, text and all! I had JUST finished installing my site too. ARGH!!! I'm not going to upload the cachebuilder until they fix this, as they might end up blowing away my stuff yet again in the process. I'll let you all know when the link is fixed.

Alright! My site is still screwed (I guess they don't make backups when they wipe out a site), but I am in the process of reuploading all my GD images. But you guys don't care about that, all you want is the cachebuilder... so it is back up and they shouldn't be deleting my site again (they were very sorry about the mistake, and it was an honest mistake). I won't recommend them anymore, but I'm not gonna move my sites because of it. So feel free to dl cachebuilder. I've been really busy at work since I got back from vacation, so I won't be getting to the newer features for another couple weeks. Until then, happy googling.

is it working?
Hi, I have downloaded and tried to use the program. But it seems like it is not working properly by me:
- I try to build a cache of NE sardinia with 45 miles east, 45 miles south
- 350 m range(also tried 1250m)
- 5 speed factor and 5 resolution (tried other values too)
after adding network link, screen flies to selected range, it seems like it is refreshing periodically and stops there. Nothing else happening. when I block internet connection after hours and check the cache offline I don't see detailed views of my selected area.
How is the screen view normally by you? How can I check process?
Thanks for the effort...

They should have backups from last week and last month. I can't imagine they can't pull it off a tape from a month or two ago.

Hi Mkkyak,
If Google Earth goes back and forth across the map and gathers the data for the selected area, then cache builder is functioning correctly. The issue may be in your yanking the network connection and then opening up Google Earth. You still need to log into Google Earth's servers to use the data you previously downloaded. That doesn't mean you have to stay connected, but at least for the initial connection to GE servers, you have to have an internet connection. I am not 100% positive that all this will work, so if you figure out anything to make it always work with/without the initial login, let us know please! Good luck, and let me know if you have any other problems.

Nope, that is actually how they blew my site away. I asked them to restore one of my websites, but they never explained to me that this would restore ALL of my sites. It's not stated in any TOS or on there site anywhere. There really was no way I could have known, so of course I told them to do the restore of my other site. So they overwrote my main site and the other site, thus overwriting backups too! IE.. no way to go back to before I restored. This did teach me a valuable lesson though... never count on your ISP to make backups.

For some reason, it fly very high instead of 1250 I set.
When I go view property of the NW link, it zoom in but slowly zoom out to 10K+.
