i have an occasional problem with my 2008 lilliput.. when its hot outside (90+ as its been lately). The heat cause the screen to appear off to the left, and the only solution is the pull the power and reconnect it. So what i'd like to do is somehow use the FB to connect/disconnect the power to the monitor. With that said i want the monitor to power ON by default, meaning thru bios and all. i'm assuming i'd have to wire the monitor to the 87a pin of a standard relay, then 86 would go to the FB, 30 would go to my 12v power supply instead of the battery. Is this correct and will this work. This way, turning the port ON on the FB will disconnect the monitors power and turning the port OFF will reconnect 87a and 30? Will provide a paint schematic if needed.

sounds about right. You do it the exact same way as a normal relay, except you connect the monitor to the 87a instead of 87. I'd insulate pin 87 just in case it comes in contact with a ground point on accident. Good luck

i had a chance today to get this wired... and it doesnt work as i thought it would. I was under the impression that 87a disconnects from 30 when the relay is switched on. Is that not the case. I was turning the relay on/off and it didnt seem to have any effect on 87a.

The way you described it previously really sounds right to me. 87a should break from 30 when the coil picks up. Hmmm, it's been a while, have you had any luck with it yet?

Hi, I have had a bit of experience using these style relays, and from memory I think there maybe two types. Whether this is a manufacturer difference or a Type: [model#] that I never really picked up on I'm not sure. I'm under the belief you may either have a faulty one, or a style in which power to PIN 87 is in !addition! to 87a as opposed to !instead! of. I am not 100% sure, but in case you may not have thought down that track I thought I'd mention it. To me though... What you have suggested looks true and correct, it should work. My suggestion would be to try it again with a known working relay to identify if your one is ok. Good luck.

i thought i did write back but i guess not lol. I havent found a solution yet.. though honestly i havent done MUCH testing since i first did the rewiring. I have tried several different brands of relay and none of them release 87a from 30. What i did was just wire a hidden switch to solve the issue of needing to control power.

It just can't be. Is there a shared power off this relay. One hooked to the brain that could inadvertently be giving +ve 'feed back' to the coil. If so, introducing a diode in the right place should resolve it. I mean if you look at the picture I just posted... 87a and 30 are a 'N/C' switch. You energise the coil, and voila... They should separate. Does the relay 'click' when expected dude? With the multi meter - Do me a favor - See if there is a loop between 87a and 87 while it is not energised - Nothing wired to it. OOOOHHHHH Hang on. You might need 2 relays to complete this!!!! Hmmm, let me think. I'll be a while as a busy couple days on. Hope to get back soon.

Well, opening 87a-30 is it's job, so, as to not come up with crazy, band-aid solutions, we probably need a complete big picture view of the circuit to come up with a proper solution/diagnosis.

if it doesnt work, either your brain (ha, ha) or the relay is broken

I'm just thinking that since he's stated a few times that the relay's switch isn't opening, that maybe there's more going on, some sort of parallel path.

For instance, I know that my old lilliput had a 12V barrel connector on it, in addition to the other connector, which also had 12V... the barrel connection wasn't necessary. And then if he's interrupting the barrel plug's power with the relay and the lilli is getting power from both sources, it may seem that the relay isn't functioning properly, beacuse of a parallel path.

Just a thought.

i'll confirm today that its wired like that but i'm only positive it is. The only other relay i have connected to the FB is plugged the same way as the other just with 87 not 87a
