Blackberry 8100 Support

Hey guys, I've got my new Blackberry working like a champ with the bluetooth DUN control, no problems there. I just started playing with the PhoneControl software, which is very nice.

Not sure how far others have gotten with the Blackberry as I see there's not much support on them, however, I have gotten to where I can dial out and make phone calls, but I can't seem to hang up or pull any data from the blackberry itself.

Anyone had any luck getting this working? I'm going to keep digging, and I think I can get it working once I learn a few more of the blackberry AT commands. If anyone has a command list for the blackberry, I could really really use it as I understand the protocol now.

I keep getting errors in hyperterminal with the basic AT commands, so I'm sure the blackberry has a bit more involved.

I'm very interested in doing this too. I'm going to start putting the PC components together outside my car this week. I'll be playing around with software to try and do this with my 8100 as well.

could you guys share some steps for this? I have a blackberry 8700. I have it connected via bluetooth, and when i dial the computer speakers can recieve the audio instead of the headset, but thats all i got. Any to dial out (from pc) to the headset and so on?

How did you manage to stream the audio coming in? I have yet to figure that part out. To dial out, is a simple AT string.

I also have a huge PDF file for AT commands for normal mobile phones that I found somewhere. Like 244 pages long. I will put it on my server for download. (1.22mb)

I believe that the Blackberry just has a modified AT command list, as for dialing out I was having to modify the command by one character. I'll post when I have more time to play with it.

That actually was easy. Just paired the two devices via bluetooth, then went to My Bluetooth Places and then activated the audio gateway service.

Im sorry if its an obvious question, but what the heck is an AT string and how would i call/execute one? Im do light coding (for web) so i dont what language would use/run at commands or what programs can call at commands for me. Any tips?

AT commands are what GPRS modems and such use. Right now I'm playing with Hyperterminal, connecting on the com port of your bluetooth device (as a modem), and then just typing in the AT commands listed in that PDF file, trying to find ones that work.

Once I find out what I need to know, I can write something in .NET or VB or something to get it going.

Ok, I just did a lot of checking, and the 8100 doesnt even have an audio gateway, looks like the 8700 does however, so maybe all is lost on getting voice from mine.

I know earpieces work with the 8100 though, so there has to be some type of software that will make this work.

So frustrating :/

I'm a software developer (java) and I have a 8703e CDMA Blackberry, I'd love to help out as well. I'd love to hear more information on how you got as far as you did. And if possible, I'd like to pick up where you left off and see what we can get going.

The links I posted earlier were to some AT command files that I found. Once you pair your blackberry with the PC, through desktop manager, you can connect to it via hyper terminal. Just supply the correct comport that the blackberry is on, and it will connect (Bluetooth works the same way).

Once you have a connection, you can enter AT commands, and see which will respond.

This link is very helpful for testing AT commands, but as you can see, the Blackberry does not support a lot of the common AT commands, like accessing the phone book, and even getting a sound channel out of it, so I'm not exactly sure how to yet.

HOWEVER, what is very aggrivating, is that the desktop manager software CAN access the contacts and memory of the device, but I do believe also, that it can only do it when USB tethered to the PC, bluetooth doesnt allow it.

AT+CBC will tell you Battery Life
AT+CGMI will tell you manufacture
AT+CGMM will tell you Model
AT+CPAS will tell you status of the phone
It Returns:
0 Ready.
1 Unavailable.
2 Status unknown.
3 Ringing.
4 Call in progress.
5 Asleep

AT+CSQ returns signal quality
at+cpbr=10,12 Should return phonebook entries 10,11,12, but it doesnt.

It seems to be pretty complicated, lol, and I havent had much time to mess with it anymore. If anyone else wants to try getting something going, all the input we can get the better to hacking these phones.

I have also found out that the 8100 does not have the Audio Gateway mentioned earlier on the phone, at least mine doesnt. We need more developers with blackberry's!

It sends the contacts. I get my blackberry to push through obex bluetooth, the contact list to Outlook in windows. It's a rsv file.

I can't see any reason why blackberries would not work, it's just knowing the at commands.

Just got myself an 8830.
Had no idea there wouldnt be full and complete control available for a piece of hardware this technical- i'm no developer, but i'm technically inclined, and really want to be able to use my phone via the carpc i'm setting up.

Post your progress. I've got the same phone and it dives me a little crazy not being able to integrate it.

To the original poster, how did you get bluetooth dial up networking working? That would require OBEx and I was under the impression it was crippled on all Blackberrys in North America.
