I just wanted to say thank you to Robby BMW for developing this solution and thank you to _Dejan_ for putting the boards together! And of course the others who have posted such great information on the thread!

I'm still having issues with my receiver/board. I've done a master reset and data reset and am now trying to re-learn the sensors but they don't abort the learn procedure. I don't know whats going on!?!?!

Don't panic!

The problem could be due to the location where you have placed the receiver.

If you want to have some opportunity to receive the signal transmitted by sensors, you should put the receiver in a plastic box because a metalic box, like the PC box or the car trunk, acts as a shield for the receiver and doesn't allow the reception of radio signals. Also the proximity of the PC hardware could be a source of interference for the receiver.
The best thing would be to place it in a central point of the vehicle between the front tires and rear ones (I've placed it near the shifter).

Testing The System

I have been giving it some thought to how you could test the 3rd Eye TPMS on delivery after hacking without going to the trouble and expense of having the sensors fitted to your tyres.

Now as far as I'm aware there only need to be a change in pressure above 2 bar an a slight increase in temperature to show the system is operational, once it has been set up and paired with the receiver/main unit.

I would suggest two ways of being able to confirm that all is well, the first suggestion is the better one, although a bit more expensive if you need to buy the item in question (but I suspect cheaper than having to pay twice to have your tyres removed etc) and the 2nd suggestion is very cheap but I'm not sure if it will work.

As I'm still awaiting my 3rd Eye system I'm relying on other to let us know if either solution works satisfactorily.

1st Test Solution

Lay you hands on one of these or similar:-

[IMG][/IMG]

It's a garden hand sprayer with a wide filler mouth.

All you need to do now is rinse it out a few times if it has been used previously to get rid of any nasties (pesticides, insecticides etc), pop a TPMS sensor in it, screw the top back on , pair the sensor with the main unit or hack if not done already. Then pump the pressure up a bit, and I would think it should show a change in pressure. Or you could do it the other way and place the senor in it, pump it up and then pair the sensor.

Now just let out a bit of air using the spray head to simulate a drop in tyre pressure and I would hope you should see the correct alarm/reading on the display/TPMS Doctor program.

2nd Test Solution

Go to your local grocery store and buy a pack of children's party balloons.
Stick TPMS sensor inside balloon, blow up balloon, pair sensor, now either let a bit of air out of balloon or pop balloon with sharp object ! Either way you should see a suitable again on the display/ TPMS Doctor.

In both cases the use of a hair dryer applied to the outside surface maybe able to heat up the air inside the "test vessel" to simulate a rise in temperature, although I'm not sure about this last idea?

Either solution I would think enables you to discover if :-

A/ You have received a good set of sensors and receiver prior to attempting and kind of hack what so ever.
B/ Once you have "hacked" the hardware you can again test every thing prior to getting the sensors mounted inside your wheels.

Have fun Guys.

Cheers Glitch

Robby,
I was trying to test my newly mounted PCB using your TPMS Doctor utility. I connected it to an USB port of my portable computer and then ran TPMS Doctor. Now I read "Off line" in the device status. Should it says "Off line" when no sensors are mounted ? Or the software will say "On line" to indicate the it works correctly and is speaking to the PC ?
Thanks.

Ok, Robby I'll try that.

So just to verify I have to run the config tool first to learn the sensor ids but do I run it while RR is running or do I run it on its own?
If while learning the sensors, the abort does not stop flashing, what does this mean?
Then once I've learned all the sensors, if I take a drive, the data should automatically updated in RR?

If you connect device To usb and start program you must see On-line status. do you see device in device manager?

Dejan,
Thanks for your answer.
I tried again to connect the device and know it works! That's great... It added the USB HID device and the TPMS Doctor says it's ONLINE! Maybe I started the software before connecting the device.....
Anyway tomorrow I'll try to test the sensors... probably using the first method suggested by Glitchinthesyst (thanks) because I can't wait for the summer tires change!

Thanks again.
Diego.-

Thanks.

This happens if the device is not connected to the USB port when the software is started.
However, after connecting the device, if you press the "Once" or "Continuos" buttons, the state should change to "On line".
This is because the program, before to read the data from the device, will try again to detect if the device is connected.

Robby, no go. I've moved the receiver in the car and I can't get any sensors to learn. The board is detected by the computer as I see the HID devices in the device manager. Maybe I dont' know how to run the config tool? With RR without RR?

You must run the config tool alone without Road Runner.
It is important, to ensure at the Config Tool exclusive access to the device.

It means that the sensor has not been yet paired.

The data should be already updated after the pairing procedure.

It seems to be a problem with the receiver part.
Is this the first time you try to get it working?

Ok Robby, thats what I thought. I have a feeling that I damaged the receiver board when I chopped it off of the 3rd eye.
If I order a new 3rd eye and connect the jp2 pin to the data pin on the 3rd eye wire harness, I don't use the config tool to learn the sensors right? Because I just do the learn procedure through the 3rd eye and the data is just sent to the PIC via jp2?

Ok, never mind.
I just read this:
Quote:
Robby, Dejan or anyone else...

So I have built the interface and paired sensors and I have initial values for the sensors but today I went to adjust my tire air pressures and the values using the TPMS Doctor, did not change and have not changed at all! Whats going on? Why isn't it refreshing with new values?
