My Setup - Please Review

Hi all,

I am currently working on my carpc and it's running fine in my own room but here it comes I was using a 300w 12v to 230v converter (had to try it out ). But it is only powering parts of my machine. The videocard fan is turning the processor fan is turning but my harddisk isn't starting. I know the pc is on so I do not know what the problem is. I used a default 300w power supply for my pc. When I plug it into my home power points it works.

But he it's old fashion to do it like this so i was going to buy a 12v powersupply for my pc: M2-ATX 160W Intelligent DC-DC PSU or the OPUS 150 watt DC-DC Power Supply for Shuttle PC's DCX2.1215.XPC. But because the opus is pretty expensive i would like to know if it is worth it.

Here's my setup (i know it needs finetuning but he Im just a noob):
Motherboard: Old one has a j33 socket and came with a p3 450mhz
Ram: 1x 128mb 1x 256mb (PC100C2)
Video Card: Geforce 2 MX 400 with tv out (has cooling fan (no external powering needed))
Soundcard: Basic one guess its ac97 (PCI)
Harddisk: Standard desktop harddisk 20 GB 5200RPM (Maxtor)
Fans: P3 Fan
Processor: Pentium III 450 MHZ
1 USB Mouse
1 Old Keyboard

I made this list (got it from a forum)
AGP Video Card 30 – 50W
5200rpm IDE Hard Drive 5 – 20W
Case/CPU Fans 3W (each)
Case/CPU Fans 3W (each)
Motherboard 25 – 40W
RAM 8W per 128MB
Pentium III Processor 38W
Average PCI Card 5 – 10W

50W
20W
3W
3W
40W
8W
8W
8W
38W
10W
----
188W

So what do you guys think am i bad in math ??

With kind regards,
