24 pin motherboard to a 20 pin power supply

Hello, I just purchased a new motherboard but noticed that it has a 24 pin power slot. I was planning on powering it with my dsatx 20 pin power supply. It this possible? What are the extra 4 pins on the motherboard for? I saw an adapter that allows me to connect a 20 to 24 pin

Do I really need this adapter or can i just plug in the 20 pin into the 24 pin and just leave the other 4 pins untouched? And what exactly is the other 4 pins for? I was thinking power for a much faster and power hungry processor?

In Most times you can use it

- simply look at connectors - you 'll see that 20pin fully identical to part of 24-pin - simply connect it with right direction and position. Many motherboards works great with it. You can leave the other 4 pins untouched.
4 extra contact uses by very powerfull systems .....
If wires from connector don't takes warm-use it greatly

Ok, i just did some research and I found out some things... One of the threads here suggests that i can plug in the 20 pin molex into the 24 pin motherboard and just have 4 holes empty and that it works fine but I have a question. The 24 pin molex has 4 extra pins, pin 11 (+12v) , 13 (+3.3v), 21 (+5v), 24 (ground). But on the 20 pin molex, pin 11 is +3.3, 13 is ground, so if i were to plug this into the motherboard, it would get the wrong kind of voltage. So i dont understand why is it that some people say its ok to just plug in the 20 pin into the 24 pin motherboard when its going to be feeding the wrong pins into the board or am i in the wrong here. Can someone please clarify this? thanks

You are wrong with pin numbers - look again at your links - it's ok!
pin 11 of 20- pin connector is same the pin13 of 24-pin connector.
Simply download mine user guide http://downloads.pilotpowersupply.com (160 Kb)
And look at Figure 3. of this user guide - I think it will be more clearly for you.

So according to your pdf, i do not need the adapter and I could simply connect the 20 molex into the 24 pin motherboard connection. Ok, that helps thanks. I could save myself those 10 dollars for the adapter...
