I currently shut down completely. I tried to hibernate but the load time at startup was basically the same. I couldnt see a difference. I tried standby, and when I started up again, my computer shut down after 1 minute. Don't know what happened there.
Another thing that is annoying me is that my load time has gone from 16 seconds (from cold start to centrafuse playing music) to ~45. I need to figure out what the hell is going on with that...

i use hibernate, i haven't had any battery drain problems at all with my opus 250, and i have left the car off for about 2 weeks before and it still had no problem starting. i always planned on doing full shutdown when i was designing and building it, but using hibernate starts the computer up a lot faster for me.

Does anyone know if it's possible to go from standby directly to hibernate?
I am running XP SP1 on an Epia MII and what I'd like to set up is to have the system go into standby when I turn the ignition off. Then if there's no activity, after n hours, wake up just to hibernate. I thought I've seen this work before but I tried it today and nothing.
I set my power button to enter standby. Enabled hibernation. Set the Hibernate after 4 hours of inactivity. After 4+ hours, it's still in standby mode.
Thanks,
Steve

Well, you can play with the power settings on WinXP... After xx minutes, shut HD down, After xx minutes do this and then that. I don't think you can go from Stdby to Hibernate on a single session directly. I use hibernate becasue I need to keep my mileage counter on my frontend.

I use S3 (Suspend To RAM). It is rare that a day goes by that I don't drive my car. If I know that I won't be driving it for a couple of days, I unplug the power connection at the PC. I am sure that if I were to leave it in S3 for a few days it would be too weak to start. The advantage though is that my music is playing right where it left off about 5 seconds after cranking the car AND the GPS still has a current fix.

The only and I do mean only reason to even contemplate even beginning to think of maybe even using bloated crappy Vista in the car environment, is for this reason. "Hybrid Sleep".
Other than that, why? if it set to sleep on power off, and then hard shutoff after so much longer, your battery is ok, and all your short trips in the day are standby and the only boot is in the morning. And if you have remote start, you never even notice it booting.

Well, I first tried 5 sec for standby and never for hardoff (using the M1-ATX). The hardoff=never was supposed to put the M1 in a mode where if the batt dropped to 11v, it would cut power. This certainly does not work. Right now as a test, I am using a power suppy and have had the setup running at 9.5v for over an hour. The M1 is not cutting power.
I have come back to my car twice now with a completely dead battery.
So I think I need to use the rather short hardoff setting on the M1. I think there is one for 5 sec/2 hour. I was hoping to use XP and have it hibernate atfter 6 hours. That would be more useful to me.

Any less paranoid now? I just had my first dead battery yesterday and now I'm paranoid too. I may have left something else on, but I won't know until I try it a few more times. I hate when that happens.
