What do you use -hibernate, sleep or SD ?
Once again I have a problem with deep discharge of battery when I am using sleep mode- I didn't drive my car 2 weeks or more and battery discharged deeply - voltage monitor shows "perfect" but there is not enough power for cranking . So I am really interesting how you turn off carpc?

I use full shutdown at the moment as its a pretty new install. My HP PC doesnt support Hybernate, not tested with Sleep as yet.

All the above. Screen turns off 1 minute after ACC is off; standy kicks in an hour later; at 4 hours, system comes back on and hibernates. I rarely leave the Tablet in the car for more than a day, but I have inadvertently left the PSU on while away and if less than a week the car still cranks. I vaguely remember testing it a few years ago when I left it on in my garage for three days in hibernate mode and had more than enough power to crank.

full shutdown.
if you're going to be leaving your car parked for a while, i'd suggest it.
before I started working from home, I rode a motorcycle every day to work. this means the car would sit for days sometimes.
complete shutdown is the only solution for me.
in all reality, even going through a full boot, many times, the pc is up and running before i'm out of the driveway our out of the parking spot.

I use hibernate, I drive my car every day. But I just got home from a 22 day vacation and when I got back my battery was dead meaning my car was alarmless for the taking. I didn't realize this would happen, I thought it just wrote the memory image to the hard drive and shut down.

Don't the M-1 monitor the batt voltage to prevent that?

I wrote about it - it's a real problem. When battery lightly loaded - voltage monitor say " perfect " but with light load it discharges deeply !!! and there is not enough power for crancking. It's pain for ALL power supplies - simply this based on phisics laws - all we can - use hibernate or shutdown, when we leave car for a long time , i think.

It does. Your computer always draws a little bit of power even when it's completley off or hibernating.
I don't know what setup you have running, but you might want to check your usb settings also. You'll find that some usb devices will remain powered even when the computer is turned off and drian your battery for you while you on holiday.

Sorry, i don't get it. The M-2 is SUPPOSED to "hard-off" (cut poweer completely) if you set it to do so or when it senses the battery has dropped to 11 volts; are you saying that when the M-2 goes "hard-off", the motherboard is still drawing power? from where?
In the case of the OP, i would imagine he/she would not have had a dead battery had the M-1 worked like it was supposed to (assuming it can sense voltage drop, i don't know) and thus my confusion - during "hard-off" does the motherboard still consume power, and if so, where does it get it from?

It's no different than unplugging your TV, PC, etc. while not using it even when it's off to conserve energy.
Electronics draw a small amount of power even when 'turned off', this includes computers.
I've run the M1 and now the DSATX. I don't drive my car for days on end (sometimes I'll go a week solid without ever starting the car). NO MATTER WHAT, if I don't put the car on a trickle charge, the battery WILL be drained within a few days.
It's not a product not working as it should, it's a fact of electronics.

This has me a little worried, although I rarely pass a day without driving in my car somewhere. My commute is kinda short actually, 15 minutes to and from work, with the occasional stop at the grocery store. I think car PCs are cool and in my case it's more techno lust than need. I'm regretting building a car PC. I justify by assuming it will increase the resale value of my car.

Shutdown right now. I'm on the rocks about CF or not CF, if not then I'll go back to hibernating (a little quicker than full boot). I have my M2 set to kill the power at 45 sec because I'm paranoid about draining my battery.
