Thumbs up USB Power

I have an IBM portable and dock with an external HD.
My portable is set to sleep after 20 minutes of no power (ie. relay on acc turns off power).

If you can make your module power down when the portable goes to sleep, then I would not have to keep my drive (or anything else) alive 24/7.

I can tell you the portable does have a sleep light.
I do not know if there is a way to monitor / connect something to the dock and know if the portable / dock is in sleep mode.

Would it be possible for you to get the voltage that that sleep light/led is showing when lit? Just a multimeter, one lead to each side of the light/led. From there we can see what to do... I have an idea brewing.

So, what happened to the 2 port no data pass through units? That would have been perfect for my USB hub and external DVD drive case.
Both devices have two USB cords, one for data, and one solely for power. These would be the most "power-hungry" devices I'd plug in to the CarPC.

Can that still be made on request? (Or instructions on how to make it myself?) I'd rather do that then to buy two of the single pass thru units.

If not, I have a Power Inverter for the PS2 that also has a 5V USB port for this kind of thing, but just one, and I'm not sure what current it provides.

Thanks in advance...

So if anyone is willing to help me or give me advice, it'd be greatly appreciated.

is that supposed to be for this thread here:

this thread is about the USB power module, there should be no soldering involved.

Just curious, do you have a schematic or even just a parts list for this? I had a fun time hacking together my own auto turn-on module thanks to your instructions. =)

Of course, if it's a trade secret...

That's done easily enough. You can get a 5V relay that responds perfectly to USB power, as in the laptop auto-off module (part here).

Just put that relay as default on on a usb cord connected directly to the host, as with the auto-off module.

Ok, I'm trying to figure out if this would help the problem that I'm having with my external DVD drive. I have the USB wire going straight to the PC, and it has 5v power coming off the PSU. It's the only device that has trouble resuming from hibernation, even with Devcon all setup. My thought is because it's getting power too soon to resume properly. I had the thought of putting the 5v PSU power through a relay that would be triggered by the USB ports, causing the device to get power later than it already is. I just can't find a 5v relay that would put out more than an amp and the drive uses 1.48 amps. Would one of these do the trick, or am I just hoping too much?

Honestly, I think having the drive powered on before resuming would be more compatible. Have you tried using devcon's plug-and-play discovery after resume?

Code:
devcon rescan

No, I don't know anymore about Devcon than I read in the write about using it to resume from hibernation. Would I just write a script that would say
$rc = _rundos("c:\devcon rescan")
or do I need a HW ID?

Just wanted to let everyone know I'm back and I am making these modules again (along with the laptop auto turn on modules). The site should be good. =)
