Electrical People..! Farads and Power Ques...

Ok ive done a bit of a search but couldnt find what i want....

My comp runs a dc-dc converter. 19V max 3.5Amps.

My questions how long would a 1 farad capacitor run it for? im thinking sweet FA...but im not sure on the calcs...

If 1 farad = 1 colomb at 1 volt
and 1 colomb = 1 amp in 1 second

1 farad = 1 amp in 1 second at 1 volt? Im not sure

so pretty much no time at all....?

Cheers

Ok after looking a bit more, the capacitor i think would discharge in about 5 seconds, but its not constant output, it declines... rapidly. so this would help for crank survival, but FA else

you're going to need to know at what voltage the computer will turn itself off at. Then maybe doing it like a RC time constant problem.

Let's say it shuts off at 80% of full voltage, because it's drawing 3.5 amps (I just used what you supplied) 19/3.5 = 5.43 which we will use for R.

T=RC= amount of time it takes for voltage at the cap to decay to 63%.

so work it kind of like an exponential decay and you have your answer.

About 1.2 seconds at that current.

I cheated and used this calculator though. I'm pretty sure the percent is not a percent of voltage it's percent from voltage. So I used 20% for the example.
