Well, here it is ladies and gents. I thought that it would be a good idea to have a sort of FAQ / newby guide, so here's my attempt. It's in it's very early stages so please don't yell at me too loudly. I'd appreciate any help as this is quite the large task once you think about all the information that there is to offer.

I'm crossposting this here since most of the information that I want to start with will be for power supplies. Any comments or feedback please put into that forum instead of here, I just wanted to call attention to it here since I know that I rarely look at the general forum

It's up to v0.25 now, databased backend, users can add their own pages, and now on a new domain check it out www.mymp3car.com/MP3Car/mp3carfaq.asp and please contribute! It's a lot of work and I'll take anyone's help who can provide it. If you have any experience, photos, sites or other information please drop me a line so that we can make this work!

Suggestion: Add http://www.zantech.com.au/zantech/dx250h.html for Australian people. Very good PSU if you're in aus - much better than keypower!!!!!!

I know when i started i would've loved a link sayin "buy this power supply"

Others are good but really 250W is like the minimum for a desktop.....

You could have added it yourself

As for power, 250W is actually overkill for most systems. I have a P4/1.6GHz here with 3 HDs and it takes less than 170W at *peak*, around 90W idling. However if you were to have a $500 graphics card in there, with both the graphics card and CPU at 100% itilization, then you might hit 250W

I also have an Athlon/1.4GHz with 8HDs in it, and it idles at about 140W max at about 210W but I have to push it hard to get that power draw. My PIII/733 that's in my car takes 59W max, 54W while booting, 37W at idle (it has a DVD, laptop HD and a few cards). I could almost put in that 60W power supply that is going for cheap, but I think that would really be pushing it (I also want to add in another hard drive). Those laptop hard drives take like 1/10th the power of a normal desktop 3.5" drive, it's crazy!

If they made a power supply that would power my fridge i'd buy it

seriously though i don't want to buy a 160W power supply when i have a peak usage of ~200W because everytime i do something intensive it'll just turn to crap......

I always buy more than i need to be on the safe side :P
