booting carpc with desktop power supply

hey sorry bout the title didnt know how else to lable it. I havent used my car pc in about a year due to my car being in the shop, well today i get it out of my closit to reinstall it in my car, but before i did that i wanted to update it. so i took apart my desktop to use the power supply from it so i can turn the carpc on at home, well i plug the power supply harness into the motherboard on my car pc and it wont turn on?? im not to literate with the car pc but i know the basics, i had a friend help me build it. so what am i doing wrong? i thought if i just used the power supply from the desktop it should turn right on but it wont. im sure im missing something and just need to know what it is.

yes, it should switch on. you did something wrong.
did you connect up and press the power switch?

You need to hook up a power switch. Otherwise the ATX mobo won't boot up. Perhaps your friend had it set to boot after power loss before? Then the CMOS battery went dead and possibly reset CMOS meaning that it will no longer boot up after power is applied.

Try hooking up a power switch (it hooks to the power switch pins on the mobo), see if that works.

Maybe, but it could also be explain as connecting the power-button of the mobo to a switch and flick the switch,

ronjon228 means connect a green to a black wire
