noob here with psu question

hi guys, quick question... i have a laptop that i want to hardwire into my car. The ac power adapter states 16v with 4.5amp output. I found many psu that matches the voltage output but not the amp output. Where can i find the perfect psu or one that will work with my laptop? Thanks in advance.

and yes when i cut the psu i will connect a 20 amp fuse for safety.

I c nobody has any idea, well i've been searching and this is the closest I came to finding the one psu compatible with my laptop:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?...6&doy=4m3#spec

if you notice the psu list the output voltage with the amp at each rate. I need 16v but not 6amps. Will having too much amps melt the wires or will it be ok and work with my laptop? Keep in mind that I will connect this with a 20amp fuse for security when hardwiring the dc dc converter.

ok since no one knows the answer, let me ask another question to simplify. Will a psu that has an output rating for 16v with 6amps max work with my laptop? From my understanding the device draws the current. Since my laptop needs 4.5amps will it get that or will that psu output the 6amps and melt my wires if any?

Your understanding is correct, the device draws the current. Provided the voltage is right, and the current is sufficient it will be ok.
