P2140 Fast Led Flash - Drive me crazy :-/

Hello everyone, I'm quite new to this forum but have been watching and learning from them for a few months now..

I've decided to go down the laptop route for my install, a Thinkpad T42

I've recently purchased a new 2140. I'm using a desktop PC PSU for testing purposes.. When I attach the +12v the status LED flashes "medium" speed 5 times then starts to flash rapidly until the power is turned off to the 12v circuit - it never behaves like the "normal LED behavior" video from the Carnetix web site.

I've read through the forums and upgraded the firmware as suggested, but that doesn't work. The PSU monitoring software reports there is a USB cable attached to the device and works correctly as I've done the latest firmware and software installation.

I'm completely stumped and slowly getting frustrated.

Can someone please offer any help at all?? I'm pretty sure it's my wiring but I need some expert help.

Many thanks in advance..

Ax

Try hooking it up to a car battery see what it does. I'm thinking it doesnt like the voltage coming in from the PSU u have hooked up.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. That does seem to be a popular response and I will try it ASAP. Is there such a device as a car battery desktop siulator?

Thanks again..

Well the method is what you are doing, using a Desktop PSU with pin 14 shorted to ground on the ATX connector.

Is there a reason that you cant just plug it in to your car? Pop the hood (or bonnet ) and wire it up just to see. But if you have a desktop PSU going and it is the only thing powering the 2140, then it probably wont help.

All sorted now thanks to all. It was simply because I was using a 12v input from a PC desktop PSU. I bought a 13.8v from Maplins and it worked first time.

Thanks again.
