Remote turn on

Hi, im new to posting on this forum but have been lurking for a few years now waiting to get a decent car worth putting a PC in. I have 1 question before i install every thing. can i use the head unit remote to turn my pc on instead of a switching ignition feed? saves running another cable to the rear

thanks

Depends if your head unit has an aux, ret, or other switched power output in the rear. Many do, many don't. Personally, I built my own switch because I really don't like the idea of the pc coming on and off when I so much as go 5 minutes to the grocery store.

Simple switch:
Cat5 cable leads from power and led headers on mb to front of vehicle
Cat5 receiver splits cable into wires
small plastic box, red push button, 2 leds, makes switch for 5$ from radioshack
power on, power off,

Especially if you are not replacing the head unit, I find this to be quite easy.

You would also need to have more of a plan because whether you are using an inverter or a dc-dc psu and several other things factor into this.

good luck

the HU's REM output is a simple 12vdc switched output, just like your car's ACC or IGN circuits. so yes, you can use it in place of the car's ACC/IGN circuits.

just like your car's ACC or IGN circuits, you can use the 'REM' line as a signal wire to turn the PSU on or to control a relay (to cut power to the PSU when the car is off).
