Casetronics Case and DC Power

I went ahead and wired up my casetronics case directly to my trucks power system. I measured the voltage at my connection points both with and without the engine running (14.3 and 12.5 volts respectively). Computer boots fine, and I added a relay to inhibit the computer from turning on unless the head unit is on (Ensures the PC turns off, as the truck occasionally sits for long stretches).

I am taking a long road trip later this week, and will report back anything that comes up.

OK, I am back from the dunes and here is what came up

The power supply works beautifully, absolutely no problems running it for several hours, shutting it off at fuel stops and rebooting once I got back on the road.

My computer does seem to take longer to boot (a few more seconds, no biggie), but I did not clock it to know for sure.

I did run into some software issues, not sure if they are related to the power supply. I need to hook up some sort of display to troubleshoot for sure. Winamp would play songs fine, then go to transition to the next song, and the music would stop. I'd punch the reset button, and the PC would reboot, and Winamp would resume the last song it was actually playing (I am using the Resumer plugin and a keypad plugin, Blackwind's I think). As a side note, can the POST beep on a Epia 800 board be reduced in volume? That thing is damn loud at my normal head unit volume levels.

The EPIA "beep" can be gone forever with the latest BIOS update from VIA. Check it out, it was the first thing I did before actually putting it in a case!

It's unfortunate that the EPIA-M, still beeps.

You think they would have learned the first time...

I actually don't mind the beep, as I have yet to install any sort of monitor, but I just wish it wasn't so damn loud!

I have not regulated the 12v in. I just feed it with the 14v i have when the engine is running. I don't have a shutdown controller, I only installed 3 switch in the dash, one for aplifiers, one for power supply and the last for powering on and hybernating the PC.
I only need a tank circuit to avoid rebooting during cranking.
Also I would like to not ear at that fu@[#n beep when the epia boots....

I also did not regulate the incoming voltage, and do not use a shutdown controller. I have been using the computer for at least six months in this configuration with no problems. I wired it up using an old Radio Shack power adapter (just cut the cable) and installed the appropriate adapter tip (make sure to check polarity!). I put a fuse inline, and tied into the power distro block for my audio system.

OT: I had a problem with some program looking for Internet Explorer. Turns out its nagware in SqrSoft's crossfader program. I don't have IE installed (running Win 98Lite), so it would cause the music to stop. Without a monitor, I couldn't see what was going on, and without a full keyboard, could not hit the esc key. By setting Winamp to Always on Top, it kept SqrSoft from stopping the music.

I purchased the Radio Shack 60 watt universal adapter and hooked it up to my Casetronic 2699/Epia M9000 with the correct tip polarity.
The adapter fuse blew out .....I can't figure out what went wrong. Unless the polarity sticker on the Casetronic case is wrong, I haven't tried it again.
How did you get it to work and what is your exact setup and components?
