Diggs thanks for pictures, now I think I will be able to do it. However how are you controlling auto shutdown, and auto on for your laptop? Are you using any shutdown controller?

Thanks

Visteon HDZ300 HD Radio.

Yes on the laptop PS, no it's not a spliced wall adapter. Refer to the image I included in my first post. It's a car adapter specific to laptops. Bought mine on eBay:

Using XP's power management for shutdown, no shutdown controller. Right now I have it going into standby after 5 minutes on battery power, but I will probably need to switch that to hibernation since my laptop battery doesn't have a lot of juice.

To power on I'm using a momentary switch that plugs into the dialup jack. I soldered wires to the jack from the power button leads on the motherboard.

ok great. That make sense. I am going to solder wire on my laptop switch instead of modem. Also, if I have my laptop in trunk. How would I extend the power to all the way by radio harness? Thanks

My newb/non-expert thought would be to just solder/shrink on enough extra wire to cover the distance, but maybe someone with more knowledge and experience would care to chime in. I don't know if there are degradation issues or not when running lengths of thin gauge power wiring, such as what would be coming from your harness.

I see that is what I was thinking just add extra power wiring there. I will just get that from Radio Shack or something. Thanks again for all that help. Now I got the power issue figured out, now need to work on audio
