Please critique this simple power wiring diagram
I have everything wired and tested (but not yet installed), except for the HD radio. Is there a better way to power the Visteon than adding it to the radio harness? I do have a second lighter outlet up front. I think other than the HD radio variable everything looks OK. And yes, the power from the battery to the amp is fused.

make sure the lilliput receives regulated power, it doesn't like fluctuating vehicle voltage.

Why not? Bugbyte in an earlier post of mine said that a laptop lighter adapter was a good idea.

Isn't that what the "egg" is for?

Not really, that's just a ferrite, which can reduce noise but it's not a voltage regulator. Now a laptop PSU itself is actuall a pretty good voltage regulator so it would probably be ok. If you are going to be using an inverter then you might as well use an adapter for the liliput also as then the lili will be getting regulated power. Otherwise ok.

You can goto RadioShack and get a 12v car power socket with striped ends, that way you can still use the adapter un-modifyed and use a common power source for your laptop and amps.
My .02 cents would be if you notice noise from the HD receiver, then use a common power and ground for all audio equipment.

Thats what I used, when I was using a laptop for as a CarPC.

Yeah, I didn't want to cut the wires on the laptop adapter or Lilliput, so I bought a lighter splitter like the one below and cut off the male plug so I had two separate outlets. One I wired to the harness for the monitor, and one to the lighter wires for the laptop. This way I can just plug/unplug.
Thanks for the tip on the noise.

diggs, how are you connecting your female adapters to car power? I am new to this and I really want to know.
THanks

Take a look at the pic above your question - the top wires are for the car's lighter and the two bottom ones are from the lighter adapter. I crimped male terminal connectors onto the ends of the lighter adapter's wires, then plugged those into the car's female lighter terminals.
If that's unclear let me know and I'll snap a more detailed photo so you can see what I'm talking about.

Nope, no inverter, just radio harness and two separate cigarette lighters (my truck has two in the front and one in the trunk). I received my Visteon a couple days ago and currently my power wiring is as follows:
Radio harness ---> Lilliput
Cig lighter 1 ---> Laptop power adapter
Cig lighter 2 ---> Visteon
Battery ---> Amp

Diggs, thanks for reply. I am assuming that you took your lighter adapter apart (one in your car) and plug female adapter wires into it. So I am wondering by doing this way you are saving your self an lighter adapter, so it can be used for cellphone charger and such?
Also how did you plug lilliput to radio harness, I mean does lilliput comes with connector so it can go in radio harness?
Sorry, if I am not making my self clear.
Thanks again

Correct, I simply unplugged the wires from the lighter receptacle.

That was the plan, but I ended up using the second one up front for the HD Radio instead of wiring two devices to the radio harness. I still have one more lighter in the trunk, though.

I bought an aftermarket harness that plugs into the radio harness so I wouldn't have to cut into the factory one. I crimped terminals onto the harness' power wires and did the same thing that I did with the lighter adapter - crimped terminals onto the other female lighter adapter.
Just typing this sounds like it could come across as confusing , so I'll take some pics to illustrate. I'm about to go work on hooking up the HD Radio on my lunch break so I'll post some pics in a couple hours.

Hmmm yeah third one is little confusing. I bought Avic D3 last week but really disappointed by it, due to issues with iphone. So I already have third party harness in my system. I just have to figure out what cables would go where. Thanks

Thanks again for clearing things here. I bought after market radio couple last week, which I will be returning it. So I think I already have after market harness. Pics would be great. Thanks
