M2-ATX with Intel Atom Motherboard Issues

SPECS:
M2-ATX Power Supply, Intel D945GCLF (Atom) motherboard, 1GB RAM, USB keyboard/mouse connected only.

I'm pretty sure I have a defective M2-ATX power supply but I thought I'd explain my issue here and see what everyone thinks. Prior to the Intel Atom motherboard I had an EPIA M10000 and everything worked great.

Basically the main problem is whenever I turn the ignition off the PC restarts regardless of what mode it is in (dumb psu or jumpered) instead of powering down.
Example: When I have the M2-ATX in jumpered mode 5s/45s and turn the ignition off the PC will reboot and then power off 45 seconds later. (does that make sense)

This is a problem because I usually have the PC go into hibernate after pressing the power button to speed up boot times. However, when the M2-ATX sends the signal to the motherboard to power off (hibernate) it acts more like a reset button instead.

Even if the J8 switch wire is disconnected from the motherboard it still restarts the PC when I turn the ignition off.

If I hook up the motherboard to a standard power supply it can be turned on and off with the power switch just fine. I also made sure the option in the BIOS to power on after power failure was turned off.

Any other things I can try or do I need a new power supply?

Sounds like a simple wiring issue. Can you verify with a multimeter your cables are correct? Might have accidentally switched them when you reinstalled it.

Which cables are you referring to? If any cables are wired incorrectly the thing shouldnt turn on in the first place, right? The only problem is when shutting down, other than that everything turns on and works great.

check which pins you have the power and reset wire attached to.

Yeah, that was the first thing I checked I verified with the motherboard manual that I had the wire connected to the correct pins. Anyways, if I had the J8 switch on the M2 connected to the reset pins on the motherboard then it wouldn't start up.

It would if the bios was set to power up when power is received.

Well, there is no option in the BIOS to power up when power is received. The only thing is to power up when power is lost, but as I mentioned above that setting is disabled. Either way, I verified the wiring is still correct.

I appreciate the feedback but I think I will try a new power supply.

Replaced the power supply and now everything works great!

I really dont know if I am having the same prob as you jeremy, but I also have the new atom board, and I also have the M2-ATX and what mine seems to be doing is when I start the car, it seems to start up and even displays that its resuming windows in the monitor, and then it looses signal to the monitor but is still powered on. Even the bluetooth adaptor is flashing which means its still in windows, but no picture is displayed. If I turn the car off, it seems to finally get a signal to the monitor and finishes booting into windows. If I turn the car back on it seems to hibernate again, and I basicly have to keep messing with the ignition to get it into windows correctly. I have checked all my wiring and its good, and seems to be getting enough current for the power supply. I have it set to 5s/2hr. which it said was the recomended setting for the PS. Please let me know if this seems like the same problem. All my equipment is new and I just set it all up.

Hi Jeremy Actually I'm having the same exact problem that you were experiencing. Did you ever find out what the problem was? I turn off the ign and the the computer just turns off immediately and then restarts again and then a little later it will just power off. Which vendor did you buy it from?

For me it ended up being the power supply. I talked to one of the engineers and he said it sounded like one of the onboard chips shorted out. I was going to replace the chip but after he told me which one it was I realized I'd need a magnifying glass and super fine tip soldering iron to replace it and then it might still not work properly. (I don't remember exactly what chip it was anymore) I bought the power supply from mini-box dot com.
