serious noob question!!!!

So after seeing alot of the carputers in the forum i have decided to go ahead and attempt to build one in my truck. i want to use an old laptop as a starter but my question is how would i convert the power source to a 12v so i can run it in the car?

I use an auto/airplane converter that is made for laptops. They are available on ebay for around $30 shipped
