P2140 How to put the PC to sleep for 2 hrs then shut off
What settings do I need in order to have the PC go to sleep for 2 hours after shutting off the engine, and then fully shut off after 2 hours?
Right now, my PC just shuts down as soon as I shut off the car.
Thanks!

You will have to give us a clue about what kind of computer it is. Laptop or mobo model? power supply model? operating system?

It's a Carnetix P2140 connected to an Aopen MiniPC and Xenarc 7" touchscreen. The Aopen MiniPC is properly set up. I just need the correct settings for the P2140 in PSUmoni

Set DMT (dead man timer) to 2 and change the soft jumpers(under jumpers) to standby.
Just a fair warning, this won't shut the computer down, it will just pull the plug after 2 hours of standby.

Oh, so DTM just pulls the plug? Any way to initiate a shutdown after 2 hours?

Not with the current firmware on the 2140.

How come you want your pc to be on for 2 hrs after the car has been turned off? Wouldn't that drain down the battery?

I figure S3 standby mode wouldn't drain the battery much in two hours. I just don't like having to wait for the PC to boot again only after a short time of shutting off the engine, like going to the grocery store.

you can hook up an override switch for that...
an override switch will allow you to leave the PC "on" while you are in the grocery store, so you don't have to wait for it to boot up again when you return to your car.
(the following diagrams were made to help another forum member with an M2-ATX PSU, but it will work for anything with a separate +12V and REM input (including all car PC power supplies)...
for a basic override switch, all you need is an SPST switch:
if you want to add an indicator LED to remind you that it's in 'override mode', then you will need an SP DT switch:
if you want a dual-LED setup (one LED for normal operation, and another color LED for override operation then you can use the same SPDT switch, but you'll have to leave the positive LED connections "hot" and switch the common ground connection between them. I can draw a diagram if you need me to.
let me know if you need any help. good luck

I actually wouldn't mind if the plug was just pulled after two hours.
With that being said, what settings do I need to have in order for the PC to go to sleep once the car is shut off, and either wake up if I start the car within two hours, or just turn off completely (I assume using the Dead Man Timer)?

I already gave you the settings for the 2140. Other than that, you need set the power options in windows to go to standby when the power button is pressed.

Take a read through these threads:
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/soft...s-standby.html
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/gene...n-presets.html
The short answer is you need software, too, to complete your task. There are two freeware programs that will do it and one commercial that I know of. I can't find the docs on hibermon but the FAQ for Wake On Stand By talks specifically about its command line interface's use with a CarPC.

As for the Dead Man Timer - does it cut the power after a set amount of time, or does the voltage have to drop below a certain point in order for DTM to do its thing?
SD_DLY - what exactly does this do?

technically the 2140s are designed to either to go stand by or shut down. What u wanna do is both. Try using just stand by and see if u likie.
