Powering your carPC outside the car
Yes, I've read this:
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/574353-post3.html
and want to do option 1
But, what's a "normal 110V ATX power supply", and more importantly, where can I buy one? How do I hook it up to my motherboard, monitor, etc.?

Normal Computer PS... like the one in the case on/under your desk... (sorry is that a trick question?)
Like this one at http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec_...iteria=BA21574
They connect the same way a CarPC PS does only you plug them in the wall.

Well, that is the right kind. I'd be weary of burning your house down (or just the reliability)with that specific model, however. Did you read the customer feedback on that page? There are so many brands/models available. Literally any computer shop will have them. Pretty much every desktop uses them.

so is there a guideline in buying one of these? minimum price? brand? min. watts (i think 160 min as i'll be buying a 160w m2-atx anyways).
i'll only use it to load software/test hardware before install

I think you will have a hard time finding one less than 300 watts.
Good idea to load software and test the hardware in the house instead of the car... much easier.
I suggest going to your local PC store and asking for a lower cost reasonable quality PS.

Rosewill does make some nice supplies too. I have been using several of their 400W units at work for bench testing systems. In about a years time I have had no PS failures. I am usually skeptical of the absolute cheapest models available, regardless of brand.

I was reading through the FAQ's and post for the bench testing and i found this link
http://www.wikihow.com/Convert-a-Com...b-Power-Supply
but my question is since all the +12 v lines are together will there be any problem in using this for bench test

These things are gold. I must have used somewhere between 20-30 and not one failure yet over here.

These are the ones I've had luck with: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817170019
I thought the ones in the post above were these, but that was not the case after all.
