Okay, the manual says JU-1 [1-2-3] jumper set is for the "shut down delay". I interpreted this to mean how long the OPUS keeps power to the PC before shutting off the power completely...
i.e. it triggers the off switch to the PC right away upon ACC off, but keeps power to the PC for JU-1 time to give the PC time to shut off/hibernate...

But, in fact, it's actual delay for the OFF trigger to the PC! WTF! Why would I want/need THAT option??

I want to adjust the OPUS power down state, not the PC switch off delay!
Can this be done? I see nothing in the manual...

On a couple of occasions, I've started the PC with the "Windows didn't shut down properly..." boot menu, probably because the OPUS killed the power to the PC before it was able to completely shut down...
And subsequently, I lose the touch screen when it does finally boot up from this state...

To leave the PC on for a few minutes for short stops.
Say you stop at a convenience store to get a beverage. If you leave the PC on for 10 minutes before it initiates shutdown, you can get your beverage and you won't have to reboot (or resume from hibernate) when you get back in your ride.

This may not be a function you would use, but it is something that is useful for others.


According to page 2 of the User Guide, you're interpreting the function of JU1 correctly.


Just to be certain....
Do you have the BIOS set to power on when power is restpored? If so, turn this off.
Also, do you have the 2-wire lead running from J7 on the Opus320 to the power switch headers of the motherboard? If so, have you tried reversing one end of this lead?
Do you have the Opus320 set to ATX Push button mode or AT mode? If so, it should be in Ignition Switch mode using JU2-9.

If the above two are set up correctly...
Try setting the JU1 jumper to the lowest time, boot the PC, then turn off the ignition and actually watch the PC to see what happens.
Does it try to hibernate?
Could it be taking a long time to enter hibernate?

If it immediately hibernates with JU1 set for no delay, then try adjusting the delay and testing again.
Repeat until you achieve the results you want.

BIOS is set to not power up after AC loss...
Power switch leads are going to the mainboard switch with correct polarity...
It's jumpered for ATX ACC switch powerup...

I have JU-1 set for the default 10 seconds, and yes, I watch the PC go into hibernate...
But at which point does the OPUS kill the power to the mainboard?? Does it 'sense' somehow when it's finished hibernating before killing the power?
Or does it just kill the power after 60 or 90 seconds regarless?

To me, it doesn't seem practical to not have an option for setting this, like you can on the M2/M4 PSU...

To better assist you with this issue, I need more details from you.
What kind of power supply are you having? Is it DCX3.120 watt PS or else? And what is the model name of the mainboard being used?
Here is how the shutdown delay of the PS works:
When the ignition switch is turned off, the PS will wait untill the shutdown delay time set by pins [1-2-3] of JU1 has elapsed then it will pulse the mainboard to turn it off completely.
The PS gives the default shutdown time of 10 seconds to the mainboard for shutting down.
There is no power down state function that you can adjust in the PS. However we can make the PS to give more time for your mainboard to do a proper shutdown.
Can you give me the required amount of time that your computer needs to shut down properly?
Can you also send your computer and the PS to us for repairing?
We also need your invoice number and where you get this PS from before we can process further.

He must be kidding! I've NEVER seen a PC shut down in under 10 seconds unless it was just a clean install!!

Why not set the power-off state for 90 seconds? ****, 5 minutes!?!?! It isn't going to hurt anything! He wants to know how much time my PC needs to shut down...
How 'bout 16.25 seconds?

hey,

i've timed how long my opus gives power to the motherboard in ignition mode, and it's one minute. this has been confirmed by thong tran @ opus tech support (that it gives power for a minute). i did have to send it in before because there were "timing issues between the opus and the motherboard", and they did upgrade my firmware, so maybe the latest version has a longer delay than 10 seconds? in order to determine the firmware version after the upgrade when i called in with a different question, he asked me to look for the chip near one edge of the power supply that had a handwritten number on it - mine says "30". so with this version, i get 1 full minute of power after the shutdown signal is sent. perhaps the earlier firmware versions only gave 10 seconds? what number does your chip say?

fyi, with my carpc that has xp, 4 gigs of memory, a seagate sataII momentus 7300.3 hard drive, it takes about five seconds to hibernate! my new carpc witht the fast drive is ridiculously faster than my fancy dancy laptop with a slower hard drive and less memory. yes, this is a new xp install, so startup and shutdown should obviously be faster (i don't have tons of useless drivers and software being loaded on each boot). but hibernate shouldn't be affected by drivers and such. four gigs is four gigs, regardless of what's in it. five seconds to hibernate for four gigs, and about 15 seconds to wake up to the point where i'm able to use it again! amazing.

but of course, it's not quite working flawlessly yet, because every now and then, it just won't hibernate due to some software issue. but that is for another thread and doesn't seem to have anything to do with my opus...
