Is it safe to use a 12v -> 19V DC converter like this

To connect a m1-atx 12v out from the atx power cable, to a laptop?

eg: splice the 12v out from the atx cable coming from the m1atx, attach it to the adapter shown above, and then plug the adapter into my laptop to get 19v it requires?

That thing draws up to 80 watts, or 2.9 amps. Look up the technical specs on the M1-ATX to see how much power it supplies on the 12 volt rail. If you are using the M1 to power a PC, be sure to add that amount in as well.

Question - why don't you just plug the adaptor into the cigarette lighter or wire it in directly? Why use the M1?

Well i wanted to use the m1-atx as my startup/shutdown controller, cause i have an extra one laying around, and my carnetix 2140 that i was using recently died.

But you are right, i dont think the m1-atx can power enough
the adapter is 80w and the pc is 65w (msi wind desktop- does not have a atx power on the mobo - only 19v DC in on the back) On top of that i dont know how much the lilliput i have draws either...

the pc and the lilliput and the dc convert off the 12v of the M1-atx i think will put it over the 2A

Is my math correct? (i suck at it)

I guess i should just shell out for a new 2140

You can still use the startup/shutdown function of the M1. Just wire ONLY the startup/shutdown function of the M1 to your msi power switch.

Then, wire your Lilliput to the M1 and you're done.

I'd also control power to the 19v supply with the M1.
Use it's 12v to drive a bosch type relay denying it power when the ssc is off.
