Rewiring ATX power button

I want to rewire the power button on my SV25 somewhere it's easier to press. Is there any special way to wire a ATX "soft power" button or do I just cut the wire going the jumper on the motherboard and wire it to the new button?

Basicly yes; you can cut the wires and connect another button there. But there could be a problem if you are going to extend those wires: people have reported unwanted behavior with those wires running from the trunk to the dash, in that case replace the button with a relais or opto-coupler.

My computer isnt in the trunk, it's actually in the front. I have no idea what a relais or opto-coupler is, but I guess I dont have to worry about it.

Just an FYI...

If you want the LEDs for your HD and Power as well as the power and reset buttons, an easy way to run all the wires is use CAT5 cable. Don't worry it can handle the power...You can see an example on my website.

Thanx Defiler, I think I might use cat5. I just have find a good spot to mount everything now.

Almost forgot, as far the switch goes, something like thisthis will work, right?

home depot also has a crap load of switches, if you cant find one that meets your fancy. many of them are like industrial looking, but I think that makes em look kinda cool.

That switch is latching (push-on, push-off). You want a momentary switch for an ATX power switch.

Also "relais" is probably "relay" which is a method of remotely opening/closing a circut.

the relay would go in place of the current switch and a pair of wires run to the place you want the control to be.

And in addition to a momentary swtich, you want it to be a normally open (n.o.) momentary, so that it shorts the connection when you press it, not normally closed, which would break the connection.
