Got my DSATX to work on standby mode!

I think I haven't been this excited since i put my first carpc in.
No more freaking hibernation, and almost instant music!
So if your power supply supports it! USE IT.
The reason I've been waiting for so long to try it is because my DSATX had a firmware bug way back when, so i never realized Jeff from mpegbox fixed it sometime ago. Upgraded the firmware and blam! it all works!
The DSATX automatically shut it down if the battery gets low, so i won't have to worry about it draining my battery.

that sounds great!, I might have to try this. How long can you let it sit on standby before the low battery shutdown activates? What DSATX firmware are you using? How did you configure the DSATX?

No idea how long i can make it sit yet, I'll have to wait a few days and see.
I configured it using the serial brainstem, running on firmware 1.15 (the one that has the standby bug fixed).

Unless the DSATX firmware has changed.. you DO still have to worry about a dead battery if your car sits too long. What you'll find is the DSATX will shut down your system before the battery is too weak to crank but other devices that remain on in the car will push the battery to that point. My advice to you is try it a few weeks before you make it your permanent solution.

i'm not referring to devices relating to the carputer staying on i'm talking about car alarms.. radio memory settings.. and other parts of the vehicle that use a few milliAmps once the battery is at a low (but not "too" low) state.

oh i gotcha, I have my voltage pot set at about 11 volt to give me a safe margin.
I do drive my car everyday, so it should be fine. I do agree that if i left it over say 1week period your concern is very valid.

i would put it to 12v if i were you. 11v cutoff and your car will really struggle to start, if it does at all.

I think 11v is fine. I used to put 10.5v and my car would start with 10v. Too bad I couldn't get the DSATX to go standby WITH the brainstem attached, so much so that on my install there is no room for the brainstem.

Where do I get the firmware anyway?

I hate using the brainstem, it sucks, something always goes wrong. So i only use it when i really need to. Hence i do not have it while the system is normally running. I wish it was usb + driver + gui or serial + driver + gui would do as well. I guess jeff is probably a hardware guy and not so much a software guy. His work on the DSATX is phenomenon and i have great appreciation for his expertise. I think i will change mine to 12V as suggested, hopefully it goes well because my normal voltage level is roughly 12.3 - 12.8V, otherwise i'll change it back. If you want the firmware upgrade, you'll have to contact jeff to get it from him directly, because he wishes not to distribute it freely.

I agree with that, it sucks. For reliability's sake, I won't use mine, and it's so big an awkward, that to fit it back for testing is a real pain, I'd have to practically remove the driver's seat. So no I can't use it, it was a mistake buying it. It was great bench testing sofware to monitor the voltage, change paramenters, but once inside the car it sucked.

The good thing is, for most people and myself included, theres really no need to monitor or change parameter all the time anyway. So its only used to change parameter once or twice, other than that the only time you should be using it is if something is going wrong and you want to know why.

Its been about a week! absolutely no drain battery! So for anyone who has faint heart, and want to try. It works! make sure you have a deep cycle battery!

PS. Anyone know where zootjeff is?! its been over a week since i contacted him about my other broke DSATX, and no answers!
