This isn't hating on mini-box.
This is simply my opinion based on my observation of the collective experiences of others.
And it's not that their products are lousy or anything. There are flaws and problems with them, though.

As I said, I know there are lots of users that have a mini-box PSU and are pleased as punch with it. Good for them.
And, as a company, mini-box has taken steps to address the problems, as andrew pointed out.

However, because the fact remains that the problems were there at product launch, and I don't think they should have been. That's where my negative opinion comes in.

You never found that link, did you? Why? It's hard to find in the NavBar across the top of the forums, amongst a lot of other crap.

It might be or it might not.
I have no experience with it, so I am certainly not one to judge.

I'm convinced that the M2-ATX is certainly not THE cause of RFI. I bought and installed the Opus 120w in an effort to cure my radio issues and it DID NOT CURE THE PROBLEM.

LOL most people can say that about a LOT of things... look at the first generation xbox 360... ring of death... look at the new camaro with the LS1 engine... faulty wiring around the starter and exhaust... the iphone... no copy and paste (till 3 generations later) and most game software for PC's are plauged with problems which is why there are patches, some even the same day the game is released... its an almost expected occurance by todays standards ~_~

theres a lot of things that shouldnt have been released but they were even by MAJOR corporations... its a matter of 'acceptable' supply and demand failures vs. delayed product availability...

it sucks this is true, but its unacceptable if the company doesnt 'fix' the problem and continues to sell shoddy craftsmanship

DP i think you just want to rant about something LOL

I'm on my 3rd M2-ATX.

First one was bought used, and it was during the first stages of my install. So it received some abuse. And I forgave it for that... For what ever reason, the peripherals would not turn off, and it wouldn't respond to the power button.

Second was an M2-ATX HV. This failed for no apparent reason. Also with the same peripherals constantly on and no response to the power button. I contacted mini-box about the issue, and they had no idea what the problem could be. And I sent it away for replacement through short-circuit.

Third was an M2-ATX HV replaced under warranty. Still, the cost of shipping it back was nearly the cost of a new power supply... Which was not covered under the warranty. (From Canada to USA) . This power supply is still running however.*Crosses fingers*

Needless to say. If I go through another M2-ATX, it will be the last. Already their product is walking a fine line with me... And I've only been in the hobby for about 3 years, with a running carputer for about 1 year...

Ive owned a couple M2 power supplies and i can attribute a lot of my problems in the past to them. First I went through 2 of them in a week from just burning out, MiniBox did replace them and admitted to a fault of there own. This was years ago so I can remember exactly what happened. I did switch to an opus and it powered a couple of my PC's flawlessly for years. Now I run a Carnetix P2140 powering a laptop. I must say this is the best option you can get in a carpc.
So anyone reading this thread that may be trying to decide on a PSU or CARPC option. Laptop with Carnetix. Really, a laptop is nice because of the battery that can be used to put the PC in to standby with out draining any vehicle power. The Carnetix simply because it is so flexible and configurable.
