Help with Opus SFX-1215 hookup

Hi All,

Just getting started on my first carputer project, and have acquired the above Opus power supply from a friend.

I looked up the datasheet:

http://www.opussolutions.com/pdfs/DC...-15-MAR-04.pdf

On page 3 it says to connect the input connector pin 3 to "ignition or power switch".

My question is this: is it looking for a momentary pull-up to 12v on this line, or does this line need to be *held* up at 12v to keep the PC running? Another way of asking this might be: do I connect to the START or the RUN position on the key barrel?

I think it probably needs to be held up at 12v to keep running, then it sends the shutdown signal after the 12v disappears, but I thought I should check. :-)

Thanks in advance!

Your thinking is 100% spot on. It needs to be held at ~12v for the PSU to remain on.

When the voltage drops to 0v, the PSU sends the pulse to the motherboard to trigger shut down. It essentially simulates a press of the power button, which Windows interprets and handles accordingly.

You never found that link, did you? Why? It's hard to find in the NavBar across the top of the forums, amongst a lot of other crap.

TELL MP3CAR YOU WANT A LINK TO THE FAQ IN A MORE OBVIOUS, NOTICABLE LOCATION HERE.
