Does Zotac IONATX A-U still need a regulator

I am going to purchase the Zotac ION A-U which has an onboard PSU. I was wondering if anyone has done an install with this unit and if connecting it to the P2140 would be redundant or unecessary.

i dont know about the regulator, but if you get the board get it from newegg.com or tigerdirect.com

save some $$$ for beer

im pretty sure though u need one ... i would go with B-E board and get one of those m2-atx (i think thats what its called) power supplies

Why are you going for on board PSU model ? Get the B-E model. which has 20 PIN connector.
I am using D-E model. and it works like a charm with 160W DC-DC PSU.

I think onboard psu can not operate in car. I don't think it can ragulate the car 12V.
Also in time you can need more powerfull psu or onboard psu can break down. Tou won't be able to use another psu if mainboard doesn't have any pins. Also m2-atx is around 70 dollars. Intel atom mainboard is also around 75 dollars. Combination of the two is cheaper and safer I guess...

The board requires 19vDC.
You need a power supply that can output 19vDC. An M2 can not do this, as it outputs the 3 voltages ATX compliance requires (12v, 5v, 3.3v).

A Carnetix P1900 or P2140 is the ticket here.
Do you need to regulate the power from the car going into the Carnetix? No.

nisarg86 is correct. The B-E variant has the 20-pin ATX connector, which will work with an M2 or any other ATX-compliant PSU.

I am constructing a Car PC at the moment and have the same board.

I have used a universal 12V Laptop PSU. Comes with all the bits you need and you just set its output to 19VDC.

I am running the D-E version with a M4 atx and this motherboard is sweet!!! To say the least. I thought about purchasing the one with the built in pwr supply but it seems like too much of a hassle, glad i didnt. The problem i see is the fact you dont have start up shut down control. It would be perfect for home entertainment use but not very practical for automotive. So i would suggest the D-E version, pls it comes with built in Wireless N.

Laptop PSU? So what do you do about start/shutdown control and anti-thump?

I purchased the Intel D945GCLF2D Mini-ITX instead, but regarding the M4 ATX, I have been considering that one. So how has it been working for you?
