morex dc dc power supply again

reading the posts i capish that the morex is fine to hook up directly to battery of car only the 12 v is not regulated and can ev entually damage the epia board . said so i live in italy and reading the threads i went to look for a regulator for the 12v. my question is: since its impossible to find a 5 amp regulator at least here in italy what is the solution i have? apart form using an inverter, of course....i forgot to say that i already own the morex dc dc power supply.
sorry if this has been already adressed but as i read its still a matter of confusion for newbies like Me .

Are you sure that you can't find any 12V regulators?

Do you intend on using this computer with the car turned off at all?

If not, then it's really easy. You can just grab a few 12V linear regulators and hook them up (you can get 1A regulators pretty easily, you'll only need 1 or 2 of them).

If you plan on using the computer with the car turned off then it is not a trivial task. I just posted a lot about this in another thread just today.

If anyone knows where to find cheap DC-DC AT PSUs, speak now

i would use it when im driving so with the car on. Linear regulators, i saw a thread bout them. Two should make the job? meaning a total of 2 amps?

LM1084-12 National ... 12v 5amp linear regulator..

yup the LM1084-12 is a good choice, the "low dropout voltage" 0.9V-1.3V from 1A-5A means that you'll need car input power of at least that much above 12V (i.e. 12.9V-13.3V) to provide a stable 12V output. The problem is that these do not have a watchdog i.e. they don't turn off when the input voltage gets too low, which means that you need to be careful becuase you can brownout your components if you try to use it with the car turned off.
