prob with power to laptop

i was at my inside friend's house messing around with my carputer and the power goes out for a second and comes back on. but, when it comes back on some parts of the house where lit and some weren't. so the laptop stays on, but the button that lights up when it's on a/c power is off, i figured it was from the power outage. when i get home and try it, the light for it being on a/c current nevers goes on, but the computer boots up, and shortly shuts off cause the battery was low. it never came back on. it sounds like it's the unit that converts 110 to 15 volts. my friend that is into computers sayd i can go to a local computer shop and have it fixed cheap or purchase one for cheap. is this the case? i tried taking it apart, but it is sealed by metal after the plastic covering came off. should i just go to a comp shop and get it fixed tomorrow? need to get it done by tues. thanks

Put a multimeter on it to see if it's outputting anything. If you need it done by Tuesday I guess you better go down to the shop to get it fixed pretty quickly - can't see them doing it in a day though. A replacement unit may be your best bet for getting working stuff that quickly.

the ac adapters are expensive. i got one for 36 bucks shipped in 2 days though. i tried some of the local repair shops, some didn't have it, and the ones that did wanted 85 bucks for it. i can't finish the install until i can get my comp back on so i can install win 98 se and the sound card software. i already hid the calbes this weekend, just dont' have a computer hooked up. so, i figure i can get pics of my install within the next week.
