does the inverter itself use much power when its turned on and nothing connected to it is on?

Yes it uses quite a bit. You want to have it off at all times when it is not powering anything.

depends on the invertor, some of the more expensive ones will only turn on if something is plugged in/pulling power

While on the topic of not using the search button and asking questions about inverters.. What is the best way to make it so my inverter turns on/off when I start the car, and also to make a override for that so I can turn the car off and have the inverter on.

Thanks.

If you want an override, just put a pushbutton or rocker switch over the same contact as the relay's switch in that diagram I sent you earlier.

I was kind of thinking of that. I think that is prob how I will do it.. My dad took my car to our cabin today so I won't be able to haul it into the auto shop (Getting some custom dash work done) until the weekend.

I'll talk to Gork on AIM and we will work this out
