Question Turning on AMPS??????

Hi,

I just found this forum and its really good I must say.

I have been planning my carputer for three months now and finally have it close to completion. But one problem that still faces me is the fact of how to turn on the Amplifers in my boot - as my car stereo outputs a signal to turn on/off each amp. Has someone overcome this or is there a thing I can buy that will do the same?

Thanks

John

You can take a 12v output (yellow cable on Molex connector) from your computer and connect it up to the Remote turn-on line on your amps (the cable that comes from your HU)

Alternatively, if that will pull too much current, put a relay on the computer, with the other side hooked to the 12v from the battery to turn them on

The 12v thing from your computer will work just fine. But thats NOT the correct way to do business.

The amps are connected to the ACC line comming from your ignition. It is your ignition that tells all ACCESORIE electronics to TURN ON and OFF.

Do it the right way and avoid troubles.

Either way should work fine, it is really a choice of preference. Personally I don't like having my amps connected to the ACC switch of ignition, that way if I need to leave my ignition switch on for another reason, I can just shut off my stereo, and my amps shut off with it, hence saving battery power.

I meant the Radio is connected to the accesory line. Hence you can leave it on and turn your car off and it will shut off.

Amps are connected to the radio remote wire. Thats why i said amps are connected to the acc line in the ignition.

They are connected there so that you wont loose your battery if you leave the system on by mistake.

BATT-->Ignition--->Accesory line-->radio-->remote wire--->amps

I use a hybrid approach - hidden (glove-box) toggle switch on the accessory line! Most of the time it's left on, but you can still switch it off, while leaving the accessories on ....
