Help, Carputer Turns Off With New Mastero

Hello All,

I finished the Mastero 2.8plus recently, and am now using it with an older Dell Dimensions computer, the 4100, with a Pentium 3, 800 mhz processor, 256 RAM, a full size DVD player, and a Laptop HD. I have the used the DVD and HD with my old system, which used an original sproggy, or the version 2 sproggy, with out any problems.

Well, I built the Mastero 2.8 plus, and checked all the voltages, they are good. The computer boots fine, get into windows, all is good. I can also leave the computer on, sitting at the desktop with no problems, it works fine. However, if I do anything, wether open a program, hit the start button in windows, try to do anything, the computer just shuts off. I checked, and the relay ont he PS is staying closed, so I don't think pin 14 is losing ground. I don't think the regulators are getting hot, since I can touch them with no problem, and the fans are still blowing.

I tried unplugging the DVD player, thinking it was a voltage thing, but that made no difference.

I am thinking that maybe the processor is drawing too much power on the 3.3 volt line. It also is possible that the processor is not being cooled enough I guess, since I did install a different/new fan/heatsink combo. Is that possible? How can I check? What can I do?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanx
Michael

Have you tried running the setup with another power supply? Try that to narrow down the problem. It doesn't sound like a power supply issue.

I am in vegas now on a road trip. Wanted to get it working for the trip. I can't test it with another PS, since it is a DELL board, which has "SPECIAL" wiring, and of course, I have no monitor in the hotel room.

Any other suggestions??

Thanx
Michael

wat OS ?

sounds like a currupt OS.

Cause if it starts and stays on in desktop then the PS is fine and doing what it supposed to do.

Also check the 78L05 if it gets hot and find out what amps your mobo requires on the 5vstby...

Let me know

Using 98SE. I will try and install the OS again, and see if that changes anything, I will check the 78l05. I checked to see if anything was getting hot, but nothing really was. I will check again. Also, the voltmere I have with me won't measure AMP above 1 or so, so I may have to wait on that.

Thanx for the input.

Well, this is what I am up to.

Tried to reinstall the OS, had major issues. Thought it might be the MB, so I ditched the MB. Turnes out thet my DVD ROM might be bad, but I will leave that for another time since this is where I am.

New MB is working fine. However, I don't think the PS can supply enough amps on the 12 volt rail.

I have an idead, that I posted about here http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/power-supplies/18312-how-can-i-use-half-old-sproggy-ps.html

Please see that thread for my question/idea.

Thanx
Michael
